Polarization aberrations 1 Rotationally symmetric optical systems
Applied Optics, 1994The polarization in isotropic radially symmetric lens and mirror systems in the paraxial approximation is examined. Polarized aberrations are variations in the phase, amplitude, and polarization state of the electromagnetic field across the exit pupil. Some are dependent on the incident polarization state and some are not.

Depth-of-field extension through polarization aberrations
Novel Optical Systems, Methods, and Applications XXII, 2019This paper focuses on depth of field (DOF) extension through polarization aberrations. The addition of polarizing elements into an optical system allows to exploit the polarization of the incoming light as an additional degree of freedom in the optical system design.

Polarization aberrations 2 Tilted and decentered optical systems
Applied Optics, 1994In paper 1 [Appl. Opt. 33, this issue (1994)] we examined the polarization aberrations of rotationally symmetric systems. In this paper we extend polarization-aberrration theory to include two types of tilted and decentered systems composed of rotationally symmetric elements.

Polarization aberrations of radiation at the lens focus
Technical Physics Letters, 2005The polarization aberrations of radiation at the lens focus are calculated with allowance for diffraction effects. Calculations are performed using the representation of radiation as a coherent set of Hermite-Gauss modes with certain amplitudes, phases, and polarizations. An expression for the longitudinal field component at the lens focus is obtained.

Analytical approach to the impact of polarization aberration on lithographic imaging
Optics Letters, 2012An analytical approach to the impact of polarization aberration on lithographic imaging is proposed. The linear relationship between image placement error (IPE) of alternating phase-shifting mask (Alt-PSM) and odd aberration items of polarization aberrations, as well as that between best focus shift (BFS) of Alt-PSM and even aberration items of ...

Matrix method for calculating polarization aberrations
Journal of Optical Technology, 2008A matrix method for calculating the polarization aberrations of light beams is discussed in detail. The radiation is represented as a coherent collection of Hermite-Gauss modes with definite amplitude, phase, and polarization state, with the longitudinal component of the field being taken into account.

A review of skew aberration, the intrinsic polarization aberration in high NA optical systems
SPIE Proceedings, 2014The skew aberration is a form of polarization aberration causes a rotation of polarization states across the pupil. Skew aberration is intrinsic to the optical system depending on the ray path only and whose magnitude is independent of the coatings or other polarization effects.

Polarization Aberration Functions in Three Dimensions
Frontiers in Optics 2009/Laser Science XXV/Fall 2009 OSA Optics & Photonics Technical Digest, 2009A generalization of the Jones calculus avoids difficulties in applying the Jones calculus to polarization ray tracing, eliminating a notorious minus sign, and clarifying the description of non-polarizing optical systems. Article not available.

The mechanism of coating induced polarization state variation is analysed by the Jones matrix. Pauli spin matrices are used to establish the relationship between coating induced polarization state variation and polarization aberrations. To reduce coating induced polarization aberrations, we propose that δ = 0 and Ts = Tp at arbitrary incident angle ...

Polarization fields for understanding polarization aberrations in optical imaging systems
SPIE Proceedings, 2013This paper provides a set of polarization aberration fields that are useful for understanding polarization aberrations in optical imaging systems. The aberration function of a plane symmetric system is used to build the polarization fields. Polarization aberration coefficients for a system of spherical surfaces are also given.
