A 14 × 14 μm2 footprint polarization-encoded quantum controlled-NOT gate based on hybrid waveguide
Photonic circuits often require separate components to manipulate light with orthogonal polarization, but this increases the chip size. Here, the authors create a polarization-dependent beam-splitter that uses dielectric loaded plasmonic waveguides to ...

Terahertz reflectarray as a polarizing beam splitter
A reflectarray is designed and demonstrated experimentally for polarization-dependent beam splitting at 1 THz. This reflective component is composed of two sets of orthogonal strip dipoles arranged into interlaced triangular lattices over a ground plane.

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

All-Dielectric Metasurface-Based Quad-Beam Splitter in the Terahertz Regime
Seeking the unprecedented ability of metasurfaces to manipulate terahertz waves in a desired manner has attracted increasing interest. We design and investigate a kind of multi-channel, polarization-dependent transmission-type dielectric metasurface ...

A carbon‐free, as‐sintered MgO–steel cermet anode, fabricated via cold isostatic pressing using MgO–C refractory recyclate, was evaluated under laboratory‐scale K‐cryolite electrolysis at 800°C. Operation at this reduced temperature, combined with the electrolyte's limited electrical conductivity, led to an increase in cell voltage.

This work explores Li‐substituted P2 layered oxides for Na‐ion batteries by crystallographic and electrochemical studies. The effect of lithium on superstructure orderings, on phase transitions during synthesis and electrochemical cycling and on the interplay of O‐ versus TM‐redox is revealed via various advanced techniques, including semi‐simultaneous

Physical Origins of Extreme Cross-Polarization Extinction in Confocal Microscopy
Confocal microscopy is an essential imaging tool for biological systems, solid-state physics and nanophotonics. Using confocal microscopes allows performing resonant fluorescence experiments, where the emitted light has the same wavelength as the ...

Omnidirectional polarization beam splitter for white light
As a key element in optical systems, a broadband and omnidirectional polarization beam splitter has been long desired. Here, based on anisotropic metamaterials, a perfect polarizing beam splitter is theoretically designed for the extremely broad frequency and angle bands without energy loss. When an electromagnetic wave is incident on the beam splitter,
