Performance of the coherent optical binary polarization-shift-keying heterodyne system in free space optical communications using a lognormal atmospheric turbulence model MIC-CPE 2010

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, simulation results for the bit error rate (BER) performance and fading penalty of a coherent optical binary polarization shift keying (2PolSK) heterodyne system adopted for free space optical (FSO) communication links with a log-normal ...

Polarization conversion in ring resonator phase shifters

open access: yes, 2004
The effect of the polarization rotation induced by curved waveguides on the spectral behavior of phase shifter ring resonators is investigated both theoretically and experimentally.

Magnetic Control of Chiral Hybridized Phonon Magnetic Moments in Ferrimagnets Fe2‐xZnxMo3O8

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Helicity‐resolved magneto‐Raman spectroscopy reveals magnetic control of chiral phonon magnetic moments in polar ferrimagnet (ZnxFe2−xMo3O₈). Large spontaneous zero‐field phonon splittings, selective phonon–magnon coupling, and asymmetric Zeeman responses demonstrate that phonon chirality is governed by magnon‐phonon coupling and magnetization.

Modularized Reconfigurable Functional Electromagnetic Surfaces Using Tightly Coupled Antennas and Back-Loaded Radio Frequency Circuits

open access: yesMicromachines
This paper presents a modularized reconfigurable functional electromagnetic surface (MRFES) for broadband absorption and polarization conversion by using tightly coupled dipole antennas (TCDA) and back-loaded radio frequency (RF) circuits (BLRFC). A dual-

Polarization insensitive wavelength conversion in a dispersion-engineered silicon waveguide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We experimentally demonstrate polarization-insensitive all optical wavelength conversion of a 10-Gb/s DPSK data signal based on four-wave mixing in a silicon waveguide with an angled-pump scheme. Dispersion engineering is applied to the silicon waveguide

Dynamics of linear polarization conversion in uniaxial crystals

open access: yesOptics Express, 2009
We report on the experimental and theoretical investigation of polarization conversion of linearly polarized Gaussian beam propagating in perpendicularly cut homogeneous uniaxial crystals. We derive analytical expressions, in good agreement with experimental data, for power transfer between components at normal incidence accompanied by the generation ...

Exploring Curvature Effects in Direct‐Written 3D Curved Hollow Magnetic Nanoshells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fabricated by a hybrid FEBID/CVD method, 3D PtC/Co3Fe core–shell heterostructures with engineered curvature and shell thickness exhibit complex reversal modes with axially symmetric N'eel‐type domain walls. XMCD‐PEEM combined with full‐scale micromagnetic simulations reveal how curvature and thickness govern the domain wall energy landscape and shape ...

A Continuous Opinion Dynamics Model Based on the Principle of Meta-Contrast [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a new continuous opinion dynamics model inspired by social psychology. It is based on a central assumption of self-categorization theory called principle of meta-contrast.

Linear-to-Circular Polarization Conversion Using Metasurface

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2013
A metasurface (MS) used to convert the linearly polarized (LP) signal from a source antenna into a circularly polarized (CP) signal is proposed and studied. The MS consists of 16 unit cells arranged in a 4 × 4 layout. Each unit cell is a rectangular loop with a diagonal microstrip.

Ferroelectricity in Antiferromagnetic Wurtzite Nitrides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We establish MnSiN2${\rm MnSiN}_2$ and MnGeN2${\rm MnGeN}_2$ as aristotypes of a new multiferroic wurtzite family that simultaneously exhibits ferroelectricity and antiferromagnetism with altermagnetic spin splitting. By strategically substituting alkaline‐earth metals, we predict new materials with coexisting switchable polarization, spin texture, and
