Polarization conversion in confocal microscopy with radially polarized illumination

Optics Letters, 2009
The effects of using radially polarized illumination in a confocal microscope are discussed, and the introduction of a polarization mode converter into the detection optics of the microscope is proposed. We find that with such a configuration, bright-field imaging can be performed without losing the resolution advantage of radially polarized ...

Nonlinear polarization conversion using microring resonators

Optics Letters, 2007
We present a design of a polarization converter between linear, circular, and elliptic accomplished with an on-chip high-Q dielectric microring resonator. Nonlinear polarization switching can be accomplished at modest input intensities because of the high-intensity compression in the ring.

Polarization Conversion in MoS2 Flakes

Semiconductors, 2020
We have studied experimentally a series of samples of layered MoS2 flakes with thicknesses varying from 1 to 10 μm and observed their strong in-plane optical anisotropy, which we attribute to the effects of strain in combination with fluctuations in the direction of the C-axis.

Complete polarization conversion using anisotropic temporal slabs

Optics Letters, 2021
It is well known that control over the polarization of electromagnetic waves can be achieved by utilizing artificial anisotropic media such as metamaterials. However, most of the related research has been focused on time-invariant systems. Inspired by the concept of temporal boundaries, we propose a method to realize polarization conversion in real ...

Surface plasmon mediated polarization conversion

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
We study the polarization conversion from horizontally polarized to vertically polarized light (or vice versa) that occurs when light is incident on a cross-corrugated metal surface. The conversion is due to the optical energy exchange between the surface plasmon (SP) resonances at the metal-dielectric interface of the surface.

Broadband perfect polarization conversion metasurfaces

Chinese Physics B, 2015
We propose a broadband perfect polarization conversion metasurface composed of copper sheet-backed asymmetric double spilt ring resonator (DSRR). The broadband perfect polarization convertibility results from metallic ground and multiple plasmon resonances of the DSRR.

Ultra-wideband polarization conversion metasurface

2016 11th International Symposium on Antennas, Propagation and EM Theory (ISAPE), 2016
In this letter, a novel ultra-thin polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) that efficiently rotates linear polarization of electromagnetic waves is presented. The proposed PCM is consist of fish-bone shaped resonators. By the design with five resonances of the PCM unit cell, an ultra-wideband cross-polarization reflection is achieved.

Polarization conversion in ring resonators

The 17th Annual Meeting of the IEEELasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2004. LEOS 2004., 2004
The effect of the polarization rotation in bent waveguide on the frequency response of optical ring resonators is theoretically and experimentally investigated. A simple model that fairly well agrees with measured spectral responses is proposed.

Ultra-wideband polarization conversion metasurfaces

Proceedings of 2014 3rd Asia-Pacific Conference on Antennas and Propagation, 2014
We propose a ultra-wideband polarization conversion metasurface composed of copper sheet-backed asymmetric V-shaped resonators. The ultra-wideband polarization convertibility is resulted from multiple resonances of the V-shaped resonators. The simulation results show that the polarization conversion ratio (PCR) is nearly 100% for both x-and y-polarized

Polarization conversion in ring resonator phase shifters

Optics Letters, 2004
The effect of the polarization rotation induced by curved waveguides on the spectral behavior of phase shifter ring resonators is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. At resonance the polarization rotation that takes place in curved waveguides is strongly enhanced.
