Polarization-Independent Wavelength Demultiplexer Based on Single Etched Diffraction Grating Device [PDF]
Polarization-compatible receivers are indispensable in transceivers used for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical communications, as light polarization is unpredictable after transmission through network fibers. However, the strong waveguide birefringence makes it difficult to realize a polarization-independent wavelength demultiplexer in a ...

Front-end Multiplexing - applied to SQUID multiplexing : Athena X-IFU and QUBIC experiments
As we have seen for digital camera market and a sensor resolution increasing to "megapixels", all the scientific and high-tech imagers (whatever the wave length - from radio to X-ray range) tends also to always increases the pixels number.

How to Manufacture Photonic Metamaterials
Metamaterials boast applications such as invisibility and “hyperlenses” with resolution beyond the diffraction limit, but these applications haven’t been exploited in earnest and the market for them hasn’t grown much likely because facile and economical methods for fabricating them without defect has not emerged.

Ultra-Broadband Mode Converter and Multiplexer Based on Sub-Wavelength Structures
Current bandwidth capacity provided by wavelength-division multiplexing and polarization-division multiplexing is insufficient to keep up with the increasing bandwidth demand required for new services.

Dual-Polarization Phase Retrieval Receiver in Silicon Photonics [PDF]
We demonstrate a silicon photonic dual-polarization phase retrieval receiver. The receiver recovers phase from intensity-only measurements without a local oscillator or transmitted carrier. We design silicon waveguides providing long delays and microring resonators with large dispersion to enable symbol-to-symbol interference and dispersive projection ...

The Impact of PMD on Single-Polarization Nonlinear Frequency Division Multiplexing [PDF]
The impact of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is studied on the single-polarization signal transmission over the continuous spectrum (CS) of a long-haul optical fiber link defined by nonlinear Fourier transform (NFT). It is shown that a linear all-order PMD compensation can reverse most of PMD effects in the temporal domain.

Progress in Surface Plasmon and Other Resonance Biosensors for Biomedical Applications
This is the shortened version: Recent advancements in surface plasmon resonance and other optical resonance biosensors for biomedical applications are presented. Advanced sensing strategies are examined for the detection of diverse analytes, integration of nanomaterials and machine learning, and emerging nonplasmonic modes like guided mode resonance ...

PAPR Analysis for Dual-Polarization FBMC
In a recent work we proposed a new radio access technique based on filter bank multi-carrier (FBMC) modulation using two orthogonal polarizations: dual-polarization FBMC (DP-FBMC). We showed that with good cross-polarization discrimination (XPD), DP-FBMC

This article presents a hybrid metal‐dielectric metasurface in transmission mode for mid‐infrared (MIR) spectroscopy. Composed of germanium on aluminium cylinders atop a calcium fluoride substrate, the metasurface achieves 80% transmission efficiency at λ = 2.6 µm with a narrow full‐width‐half‐maximum of 0.4 µm.
