Polarization-maintaining photonic bandgap Bragg fiber

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2009
The possibility of fabricating a polarization-maintaining Bragg fiber has been studied. It is shown that violation of the cylindrical symmetry of a Bragg mirror in most cases results in a sharp increase in optical loss, which is caused by resonance transmission through the Bragg mirror at wavelengths near the cutoffs of the modes of the high-index ...

Low loss fusion splicing polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber and conventional polarization-maintaining fiber

Optical Fiber Technology, 2012
Abstract An efficient and simple method of fusion splicing of a Polarization-Maintaining Photonic Crystal Fiber (PM-PCF) and a conventional Polarization-Maintaining Fiber (PMF) with a low loss of 0.65 dB in experiment is reported. The minimum bending diameter of the joint can reach 2 cm.

Monomode-polarization-maintaining fiber directional couplers

Optics Letters, 1983
The fabrication and experimental evaluation of monomode-fiber directional couplers having polarization-maintaining elliptical-cored fibers is described. The couplers have a polarization isolation of greater than 40 dB and insertion losses of less than 0.5 dB.

Tilted fiber grating polarizer in a 40-µm polarization-maintaining fiber

Applied Optics, 2023
The optical polarizer is a crucial component widely used in many optical systems and applications. Fiber-optic polarizers have the merits of excellent compatibility and ease of integration with other fiber components. We report an in-line polarizer enabled by a 45° tilted fiber grating inscribed into a specialty fiber for the next ...

Polarization-maintaining property of tapered polarization-maintaining fibers

Applied Optics, 2013
Distributed group birefringence of tapered polarization-maintaining fibers (PMFs) is measured by employing a high-resolution optical frequency-domain reflectometry system. Autocorrelation data processing reveals distributed mode coupling between the fast and slow modes and higher-order modes excited by the tapering process along the taper region.

Polarization maintaining Single-mode fibers

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 1981
Polarization-maintaining single-mode fibers will find application in acoustooptic sensors and fiber gyroscopes. In this study both stress-induced birefringence and elliptical core polarization-maintaining single-mode fibers were developed and evaluated.
