Fiber Devices Using Polarization-Maintaining Fibers

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
Abstract Fiber devices using polarization-maintaining fibers called PANDA fibers are presented. They are polarization-maintaining couplers and polarization-splitting couplers, optical isolators and optical circulators, and multi/demultiplexers designed for 1.3 μm wavelength. Crosstalk of-32 dB and excess loss of 0.03 dB for the polarization-maintaining

Radiation effects in polarization-maintaining fibers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 1989
One likely application for polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber is in fiber-optic gyroscopes onboard spacecraft. Severe performance degradation could occur if the PM fiber is sensitive to the space radiation environment, which depends on such factors as the spacecraft orbit, shielding by the skin and structure, and sunspot activity.

Polarization-Maintaining Fibers

Applied Scientific Research, 1982
The parameters that determine the polarization-maintaining ability and the polarization-dispersion of a birefringent fiber are discussed in a tutorial fashion. Based on promising theoretical and experimental results, I conclude that fibers with adequate polarization-maintaining properties for sophisticated heterodyne and homodyne applications are ...

Polarization-maintaining fibers and their applications

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1986
Polarization-maintaining fibers and their applications are reviewed. The classification of high-birefringent fibers and low-birefringent fibers and their fabrication methods and characteristics are discussed in Section II. Analytical methods and numerical methods for fiber design on the birefringence are presented in Section III. Degradation factors of

Properties of Rectangular Polarizing and Polarization Maintaining Fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
Polarization maintaining fiber with a near rectangular cross section, made by preform deformation, has demonstrated extinction ratios for 5 meter lengths of 43 dB, h parameter values of 1.7x10-6 m-1 for 100 meter lengths and losses of 0.8 dB/km at 1.3 and 1.5ttm.

Update on polarization-maintaining fibers

Optical Fiber Communication, 1984
There is widespread interest in fibers which can hold a given state of polarization despite bends, kinks, and environmental changes. Applications at present are primarily in fiber sensors with the fiber gyroscope1 the most immediate. However, the attainment2 of low loss with good polarization holding in lengths up to 8 km is an indication of the ...

Method for fusion splicing polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fibers and conventional polarization-maintaining fiber

AOPC 2019: Optical Fiber Sensors and Communication, 2019
In view of mode field matching problem between the polarization-maintaining photonic crystal fiber and the conventional optical fibers, the polarization and mode field distribution characteristics of photonic crystal fiber were analyzed and investigated by using a finite element method.

Polarization Effects in Polarization-Independent and Polarization Maintaining Fiber Amplifiers

2006 Digest of the LEOS Summer Topical Meetings, 2006
Polarization effects in fiber optical amplifiers are described. Theoretical and experimental results for the statistical variation of the polarization extinction ratio (PER) in a PM amplifier are presented. PER variation between units and over temperature is analyzed.

Polarization-Maintaining Optical Fibers

1989
In ordinary axially symmetrical single-mode fibers, two mutually independent orthogonal HE11 modes can propagate. In the framework of Cartesian coordinates, these are the HE11x mode, which has its principal electric field component in the x direction, and the HE11y mode, which has principally the y component of the electric field. We hereafter omit the

All-Polarization-Maintaining Ultrafast Fiber Lasers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2025
Utilizing a self-stabilized interferometer mode-locker, we demonstrate a bidirectional all-polarization-maintaining Er-doped fiber laser, and the generation of both harmonic mode-locking and noise-like pulses in an all-polarization-maintaining Tm-doped fiber laser.
