An optimal feedforward design for complete PMD compensation up to the second order [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
As an extension to a previous paper, this paper describes the optimization of a second-order, feedforward polarization-mode dispersion (PMD) compensation scheme by reducing its degrees of freedom (DOF) by two.

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Mode-dependent spectral narrowing of polarized soliton in asymmetric C-rich SiC channel waveguide [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Photonics
Owing to the anomalous group-velocity dispersion (GVD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) that occur in the C-rich SiCx channel waveguide with an asymmetric core aspect, the unique spectral linewidth narrowing phenomenon of a negatively chirped ...

Diffusion of optical pulses in dispersion-shifted randomly birefringent optical fibers

open access: yes, 2004
An effect of polarization-mode dispersion, nonlinearity and random variation of dispersion along an optical fiber on a pulse propagation in a randomly birefringent dispersion-shifted optical fiber with zero average dispersion is studied.

Solitons in fibers with polarization mode dispersion

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2002
Evaluating the relative time displacement of the two orthogonally polarized components of a pulse propagating down a birefringent optical fiber is considered. A method that provides analytical expressions for this time displacement is described and generalizes analytical results already published.

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

Coherent quantum measurement for the direct determination of the degree of polarization and Polarization Mode Dispersion compensation

open access: yes, 2000
An example of a coherent measurement for the direct evaluation of the degree of polarization of a single-mode optical beam is presented. It is applied to the case of great practical importance where depolarization is caused by polarization mode ...

Characterization of a Recyclate‐Based MgO‐Steel Composite As‐Sintered Inert Anode Candidate After Exposure to Cryolite Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon‐free inert anodes are essential for decarbonizing aluminum electrolysis. This study investigates a recyclate‐based MgO‐316L steel composite anode tested under galvanostatic Hall–Héroult conditions in cryolite at 1000°C. Microstructural analysis reveals selective MgO fluorination, spinel and oxide layer formation, electrolyte infiltration, and ...

Twin-photon techniques for fiber measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The potential of twin photons generated by parametric down-conversion for metrological applications are discussed. We present several experimental results like the measurement of chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion in optical fibers ...

Modal and Polarization Qubits in Ti:LiNbO$_3$ Photonic Circuits for a Universal Quantum Logic Gate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Lithium niobate photonic circuits have the salutary property of permitting the generation, transmission, and processing of photons to be accommodated on a single chip.
