Through the Looking Glass: Faraday Conversion in Turbulent Blazar Jets
Faint levels of circular polarization (Stokes V) have been detected in several relativistic jets. While typically less than a few percent, circular polarization can give us critical insight into the underlying nature of the jet plasma.

HabEx polarization ray trace and aberration analysis [PDF]
The flux difference between a terrestrial exoplanet and a much brighter nearby star creates an enormous optical design challenge for space-based imaging systems. Coronagraphs are designed to block the star’s flux and obtain a high-dynamic-range image of the exoplanet. The contrast of an optical system is calculated using the point spread function (PSF).

Numerical Tool for Calculating Birefringence in Mirror-Substrates for Gravitational-Wave Detectors
The influence of birefringence on rays entering and exiting a non-isotropic medium is a complex process that depends on its dielectric tensor, the orientation and geometry of the medium, the surrounding material, and the inclination of the incident ray ...

Single acquisition reconstruction of nonlinear susceptibility and Raman tensors at the diffraction limit [PDF]
Quantitative extraction of nonlinear optical tensors at the microscale typically requires sequential polarization scans, mechanical rotations, and careful correction of high-NA polarization distortions.

A simple P-wave polarization analysis: its application to earthquake location
We present a method for hypocentral location which takes into account all three components of ground motion and not only the vertical one, as it is usually done by standard least-square techniques applied to arrival times.

We propose a semi-analytical modeling of smoothed laser beam deviation induced by plasma flows. Based on a Gaussian description of speckles, the model includes spatial, temporal, and polarization smoothing techniques, through fits coming from ...

Polarization ray tracing and polarization aberration compensation in reflective, astronomical telescopes [PDF]
Assessing and optimizing polarization performance in the context of ray-based optical design can be challenging. We describe an approach to this problem that decouples polarization effects from optical system geometry for reflective systems.
