An All‐Optical Driven Bio‐Photovoltaic Interface for Active Control of Live Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐photovoltaic Interface (BIO‐PV‐I) for live cell manipulation is presented. BIO‐PV‐I can be activated non‐invasively and remotely to control the spatial motility, adhesion, and morphology of cells adhering to it. BIO‐PV‐I uses a patterned light‐induced electric potential in iron‐doped lithium niobate crystals whose light‐driven and reversible nature,

Axial anomaly and confinement in two-dimensional QED: Singular behavior of vacuum polarization at threshold

open access: yesPhysics Letters B
Performing the one-loop calculation of the vacuum polarization amplitude in QED1+1, one finds that the axial-vector current exhibits an anomaly. We note that the photon self-energy function displays a singularity in the 1+1D case, in stark contrast to ...

Raman Microscopy at the Organic–Inorganic Interfaces in Human Calcified Aortic Valves Shows the Co‐Existence of Whitlockite Crystals and Carbonated Hydroxyapatite‐Mineralized Collagen Fibrils

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study advances our understanding of aortic valve stenosis by capturing spatially resolved chemical and structural changes at the nanoscale. The findings highlight the potential of combined Raman and electron microscopy for understanding calcification mechanisms across diverse tissue types.

From Single Atoms to Nanoparticles: Pathways Toward Efficient and Durable Pt/TiO2 Photocatalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Platinum single atoms on TiO2 nanosheets evolve into clusters and nanoparticles under ethanol photoreforming and thermal treatments. By controlling deposition and post‐treatments, particle size and location on specific facets are modulated. The study reveals how stability pathways determine efficiency, guiding the design of more durable photocatalysts.

Polars of real singular curves

open access: yes, 2008
Polar varieties have in recent years been used by Bank, Giusti, Heintz, Mbakop, and Pardo, and by Safey El Din and Schost, to find efficient procedures for determining points on all real components of a given non-singular algebraic variety. In this note we review the classical notion of polars and polar varieties, as well as the construction of what we

Polarization singularities in a stress-engineered optic

open access: yesJournal of the Optical Society of America A, 2019
We develop a simplified version of a recently presented model to simulate the oblique propagation of polarized light through a thick birefringent element known as a stress-engineered optic (SEO). We use this model to analyze the formation and evolution of three polarization singularities, stars, lemons, and monstars, and experimentally verify the ...

Predicting Atomic Charges in MOFs by Topological Charge Equilibration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An atomic charge prediction method is presented that is able to accurately reproduce ab‐initio‐derived reference charges for a large number of metal–organic frameworks. Based on a topological charge equilibration scheme, static charges that fulfill overall neutrality are quickly generated.

Visualizing polarization singularities in Bessel-Poincaré beams

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
We demonstrate that an annulus of light whose polarization is linear at each point, but the plane of polarization gradually rotates by π radians can be used to generate Bessel-Poincaré beams. In any transverse plane this beam exhibits concentric rings of polarization singularities in the form of L-lines, where the polarization is purely linear ...

Atomic‐Scale Light Coupling Control in Ultrathin Photonic Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin photonic nanomembranes provide atomic‐scale control over the coupling between incident light and high‐Q photonic modes, enabling angstrom‐level resonance tuning and strong field confinement. When integrated with TMD monolayers, they further yield enhanced light–matter interactions, offering a versatile platform for advancing quantum photonics,

Stabilization of Miscible Aqueous Phases via Diffusion‐Controlled Multifunctional Nanoparticle‐Ligand Complexation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a versatile approach to harnessing miscible aqueous domains, enabling liquid‐in‐liquid compartmentalization using a barrier formed in situ rather than bulk immiscibility. The barrier forms upon the complexation of multifunctional nanoparticles and ligands at the contact boundary of aqueous phases.
