Novel oligocarbosilazanes bearing promesogenic end groups

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2009
A series of novel oligomers with promesogenic groups on both termini were prepared by a hydrosilylation reaction between well-defined telechelic oligocarbosilazanes end-fitted with vinylsilane (SiVi) groups and promesogenic compounds containing one ...

Interpretation of petrographic anisotropy in ornamental granites based on P wave velocity measurements

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2020
The existence of a possible anisotropy, determined by the orientation of any mineral or by microcrack network in granite rock, isn´t easily detected by the naked eye.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...

The observation of ferroelastic/ferroelectric domains in synthetic Mn3B7O13X single-crystal boracites by light and electron microscopy

open access: yes, 1997
Crystals of halogen manganese boracite, the mineral Mg3B7O13Cl, which is currently found in bedded sedimentary deposits of anhydrite, gypsum and halite, have been grown by chemical transport reactions and were examined by polarizing light microscopy and ...

Lamellar assembly and orientation-induced internal micro-voids by cross-sectional dissection of poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(L-lactic acid) blend

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2013
Micro-lamellar patterns and orientation-induced micro-voids (cracks) in spherulites are probed in step-crystallized blends of two crystalline polymers: poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and low-molecular-weight poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) in different weight ...

Observation of an anomalous SmA-SmC-SmA phase sequence in a bent-core liquid crystal derived from 4-cyanoresorcinol

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
The physical properties and the phase transitions of a smectic liquid crystal material built from achiral bent-core molecules are investigated by electro-optics, polarizing microscopy, birefringence, and spontaneous polarization.

Polarizable Vanadium Dipoles Promote Water Dissociation on Vanadium‐Based Metal Organic Framework

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The polarization of unpaired V 3d electrons weakens the H─O bond to improve water dissociation by the dual Vδ+:O─H and Pλ−:H─O coupling hydrogen bonds formation and relaxation. P@V‐MOF electrocatalyst shows low overpotentials (94 mV in acid, 178 mV in neutral, and 77 mV in alkaline solutions) with excellent stability for effective overall water ...

Self-assembled ordered structures in thin films of HAT5 discotic liquid crystal

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2010
Thin films of the discotic liquid crystal hexapentyloxytriphenylene (HAT5), prepared from solution via casting or spin-coating, were investigated by atomic force microscopy and polarizing optical microscopy, revealing large-scale ordered structures ...

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Measuring optical beam shear angle of polarizing prisms beyond the diffraction limit with localization method

open access: yes, 2019
We demonstrate a simple and direct method to precisely characterize the optical beam shear angle of polarizing prisms. Applying nanometer localization analysis for determining the central positions of the two sheared spots with orthogonal polarizations ...
