Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Spindle Angle Measurements

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2013
Spindle angles measures derive from the measures of spindle poles positions that were taken from fixed and immunostained adherent cells. To determine spindle angles (α), z-stack images of metaphasic cells immunostained with anti γ-tubulin (spindle poles)

The $\sigma$ meson in a nuclear medium through two pion photoproduction

open access: yes, 2002
We present theoretical results for $(\gamma, \pi^0 \pi^0)$ production on nucleons and nuclei in the kinematical region where the scalar isoscalar $\pi \pi$ amplitude is influenced by the $\sigma$ pole. The final state interaction of the pions modified by

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Polar Motion Dynamics on Slow‐Rotating Venus: Signatures of Mantle Flow

open access: yesAGU Advances
With its 1 day lasting 243 days on Earth, Venus is the slowest‐spinning planet in the Solar System and its rotational bulge is anomalously small. A rotational bulge stabilizes the orientation of planets. Having only a tiny stabilizer, the rotational pole

Effect of Crystallographic Texture on Hydride Orientation in Zr-(1%)Nb Fuel Clad [PDF]

open access: yesمجله علوم و فنون هسته‌ای, 2014
In this paper, the effect of crystallographic texture on hydride orientation in the inner and outer layers of Zr-(1%)Nb clad was investigated. (0002) pole figures were measured by transmission and reflection X-ray diffraction method.

Texture Gradient in a Rectangular Extruded Al60Mg40 Metal Matrix Composite

open access: yesMetals, 2019
By applying cold extrusion, an elemental metal powder composite Al60Mg40 was prepared. The texture gradient was measured over the cross-section of the extrusion profile using synchrotron radiation while the bulk texture was obtained by neutron ...

Are Simple Real Pole Solutions Physical? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We consider exact solutions generated by the inverse scattering technique, also known as the soliton transformation. In particular, we study the class of simple real pole solutions. For quite some time, those solutions have been considered interesting as

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Imigrant — Uchodźca — Obcy? Nie-Polak jako Inny w wybranych dziełach kinematografii polskiej lat 2015–2021

open access: yesZagadnienia Rodzajów Literackich, 2022
The article analyses the ways of presenting the Other — an immigrant, a refugee, a non-Pole — in selected works of Polish cinema from 2015 to 2021.
