Manufacturing problems such as heat treatment‐induced cracking hinder the widespread application of the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process to superalloys. In this study, cracks in the LPBF components of Inconel 738LC superalloy are characterized after heat treatment at various temperature ranges, revealing two distinct cracking behaviors.

Different Al/Al bimetals with a single engineered interface reveal how mechanical mismatch governs fatigue crack growth under cyclic loading. Additionally, loading–unloading–reloading tests link the microyielding behavior to the fatigue crack growth resistance, while crack‐path analysis reveals toughening mechanisms at the interface, highlighting ...

During creep of a single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloy, the overall crystal orientation is observed to remain constant while the microstructure evolves. Despite the lack of macroscopic rotation, small (<1°) rotations are observed on the submicron size scale and are accommodated by counteracting rotations over the scale of several micrometers.

Schematic representation of modes of microcrack nucleation, growth and temporary arrestment at different boundaries, with the criteria for crack propagation in three scenarios: (1) large notch, (2) defect/small sharp notch, and (3) long crack. This work revisits and integrates results on the fatigue behavior of advanced bainitic steels (in particular ...

Epitaxial growth and characterization of Bi1−xSbx thin films on (0001) sapphire substrates
We report the molecular beam epitaxy of Bi1−xSbx thin films (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) on sapphire (0001) substrates using a thin (Bi,Sb)2Te3 buffer layer. The characterization of the films using reflection high energy diffraction, x-ray diffraction, atomic force ...

Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
