Omega transition accompanied by mechanically-induced twinned martensite

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2020
We present here an analysis on omega transition process during martensitic transformation. Martensitic transformation occurred during deformation at room temperature, avoiding the influence of auto-tempering on metastable omega phase.

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

X-ray pole figure analysis. Final report

open access: yes, 1978
Crystal orientation in a polycrystalline material determines the characteristics of the material. When a material is deformed, a specific crystallographic orientation of the grains with respect to the deformation direction becomes predominant.

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Piezoelectric Pole Figure of a Vein Quartz Sample [PDF]

open access: yesTexture, Stress, and Microstructure, 1988
Longitudinal piezoelectric coefficients have been measured on cubic samples and from 150 different orientations on a spherical sample of coarse‐grained vein quartz. The results are consistent with the presence of a piezoelectric fabric. The piezoelectric pole figure of the studied spherical sample demonstrates three distinct patterns of alternatively ...

Measurements and predictions of strain pole figures for uniaxially compressed stainless steel

open access: yes, 2004
Strain pole figures representative of residual intergranular strains were determined from an −2.98% uniaxially compressed austenitic stainless steel sample.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Pion-pole contribution to HLbL from twisted mass lattice QCD at the physical point

open access: yes, 2022
We report on our computation of the pion transition form factor ${\cal F}_{P\rightarrow \gamma^*\gamma^*}$ from twisted mass lattice QCD in order to determine the numerically dominant light pseudoscalar pole contribution in the hadronic light-by-light ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for
