The Validity of the Pole Figure

Journal of Applied Physics, 1945
A [110] pole figure for cold-rolled and annealed silicon steel, constructed from data obtained with an integrating x-ray camera, is compared with a stereographic projection of [110] poles for one hundred individual grains in the same samples. From this comparison, it is concluded that pole figures are accurate enough to determine preferred orientations

Reducing the Effects of Nonuniform Pole Distribution in Inverse Pole Figure Studies

Journal of Applied Physics, 1959
When x-ray-diffraction preferred orientation data are applied to the prediction of some physical property in a particular fabrication direction, a direct inverse pole figure determination is desirable. Two tests have been applied to the method. The first concerns the use of x-ray-diffraction preferred orientation data for the prediction of an aggregate

Illustration of Texture with Ultrasonic Pole Figures

1987
Materials are most often used in the form of polycrystalline aggregates. Preferential orientation of the grains or crystallites within such an aggregate is known as “texture”, and almost all methods of fabrication will tend to develop a texture to some degree. To differentiate among textures, it is desirable to describe and quantify them. One technique

Crystallite Orientation Analysis from Incomplete Pole Figures

Advances in X-ray Analysis, 1974
AbstractThe use of incomplete pole figures results in the loss of orthogonality relations among the associated Legendre functions, and necessitates explicitly evaluating integrals of products of these functions. The required indefinite integrals of associated Legendre functions and their products have been evaluated for cubic crystallographic symmetry ...

RHEED Transmission Mode and RHEED Pole Figure

2013
In the last chapter, we presented the principles of x-ray diffraction and the construction of a pole figure, particularly the pole figure constructed from the diffraction patterns obtained by an area detector. In this chapter, we describe the similarities and differences between reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) transmission mode and ...

Technique for Preparing Laminated Pole Figure Samples

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1965
A new method is described for making composite samples for the x-ray diffraction, back reflection pole figure technique. Considerable savings, in material and machining costs, are realized by cutting strips, for lamination, at 45° to the rolling direction.

The Analysis of Quantitative Pole-Figure Data

Journal of Applied Physics, 1954
An analysis of isolated concentrations of poles in a pole-figure plot has been made in terms of a normal bivariate frequency distribution. A definition of pole density is given, and absolute units for measuring pole density are introduced. Simple procedures for determining the standard deviation of the pole-density distribution and for calculating the ...
