Emerging Viral Threats in Rice: A Decade of Discovery and Implications for Crop Protection. [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Cell Environ
ABSTRACT Rice viral diseases pose severe threats to global food security, with over 20 viruses identified in China alone. The advent of high‐throughput sequencing has accelerated the discovery of novel viruses in cultivated and wild rice, unveiling previously undetected threats.

Beet Chlorosis Virus Infection Mitigates Aphid-Induced Plant Defences and Improves Plant Acceptability to Aphid Vectors. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Ecol
ABSTRACT Plant viruses often alter host traits in ways that affect interactions with herbivores, potentially facilitating their own acquisition and transmission by insect vectors. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms underlying this phenomenon.

Broadening Virus Resistance Through Gene Pyramiding of eIF4E Family Members. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Plant Pathol
Gene mutations in nCBP combined with eIF4E1 or eIFiso4E reduced diverse virus accumulation, underscoring the potential of gene pyramiding in the eIF4E family for broad‐spectrum virus resistance. ABSTRACT Recessive resistance, achieved through mutations in host susceptibility genes, offers an effective way for controlling plant viruses. One well‐studied

Complete genome sequence of wheat yellow stripe polerovirus, a new polerovirus infecting wheat (Triticum aestivum) in China

open access: yes, 2023
Abstract Wheat plants with yellow stripes on their leaves were collected in Tai’an City (Shandong province, China). High-throughput sequencing analysis of the collected plants showed that they were coinfected with wheat leaf yellowing-associated virus (WLYaV) and an unidentified polerovirus.

Evidence for lysine acetylation in the coat protein of a polerovirus

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2014
Virions of the RPV strain of Cereal yellow dwarf virus-RPV were purified from infected oat tissue and analysed by MS. Two conserved residues, K147 and K181, in the virus coat protein, were confidently identified to contain epsilon-N-acetyl groups. While no functional data are available for K147, K181 lies within an interfacial region critical for ...

Discovery of a new polerovirus infecting Bidens pilosa

open access: yes, 2023
Abstract A new virus of the genus Polerovirus in the family Solemoviridae was identified in Bidens Pilosa displaying mosaic and mottle symptoms. Its nearly complete genome of 5,705 nucleotides (nt) contains seven open reading frames (ORFs). The virus shares nucleotide sequence identities 53.2–67.1% with other poleroviruses at whole genome level.

Insights Into the Polerovirus–Plant Interactome Revealed by Coimmunoprecipitation and Mass Spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions®, 2015
Identification of host proteins interacting with the aphidborne Potato leafroll virus (PLRV) from the genus Polerovirus, family Luteoviridae, is a critical step toward understanding how PLRV and related viruses infect plants. However, the tight spatial distribution of PLRV to phloem tissues poses challenges.

Diversity of polerovirus‐associated RNAs in the virome of wild and cultivated carrots

open access: yesPlant Pathology, 2022
Abstract The self‐replicating polerovirus‐associated RNAs have recently been classified as tombusvirus‐like associated RNAs (tlaRNAs). In a metagenomic comparison of the virome of wild ( Daucus carota subsp. carota ) and cultivated (

Potato leafroll virus: A re‐emerging threat to sustainable potato production

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 189, Issue 1, July 2026.
Potato leafroll virus (PLRV) is a positive‐strand RNA virus. Virus particles of PLRV are isometric, 24 nm in diameter. PLRV is the causal agent of leafroll disease in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) which causes significant losses in yield and quality of potato tubers.
