TREE CANOPY HEIGHT ESTIMATION USING MULTI BASELINE RVOG INVERSION TECHNIQUE [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2018
Polarimetric Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolInSAR) technique utilizes the characteristics of both SAR polarimetry and Interferometry. PolInSAR technique is proved to be very useful for vegetation parameters retrieval. Estimation of the tree

Vegetation canopy height estimation in dynamic tropical landscapes with TanDEM‐X supported by GEDI data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 7, Page 1639-1656, July 2023., 2023
Abstract Vegetation canopy height is a relevant proxy for aboveground biomass, carbon stock, and biodiversity. Wall‐to‐wall information of canopy height with high spatial resolution and accuracy is not yet available on large scales. For the globally consistent TanDEM‐X data, simplifications are necessary to estimate canopy height with semi‐empirical ...

Polarimetric Decomposition and Machine Learning‐Based Classification of L‐ and S‐Band Airborne SAR (LS‐ASAR) Data

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 10, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
Abstract The polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data sets have been widely exploited for land use land cover (LULC) classification due to their sensitivity to the structural and dielectric properties of the imaging target. In this study, the potential of fully polarimetric L‐ and S‐band Airborne SAR (LS‐ASAR) data sets were explored for the ...

Patch‐based nonlocal estimation of scattering mechanism vector in PolInSAR

open access: yesElectronics Letters, Volume 59, Issue 9, May 2023., 2023
This paper proposes a method to optimize scattering mechanism vectors based on nonlocal estimations. A pixel‐by‐pixel optimization model is established by calculating patch‐based nonlocal similarity, which effectively reduces the uncertainty of scattering mechanism vector estimation while maintaining high resolution.

Use of TanDEM-X PolInSAR for canopy height retrieval over tropical forests in the Western Ghats, India

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change, 2022
Canopy height is a critical parameter in quantifying the vertical structure of forests. Polarimetric SAR Interferometry (PolInSAR) is a radar remote sensing technique that makes use of polarimetric separation of scattering phase centers obtained from ...

A Method to Select Coherence Window Size for forest height estimation using PolInSAR Data [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2013
Estimating the height of trees is one of the most important applications of polarimetrc interferometric synthetic aperture Radar (PolInSAR). PolInSAR requires an appropriate estimation of the interferogram coherence for obtaining the best results ...

Combining L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar backscatter and TanDEM-X canopy height for forest aboveground biomass estimation

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change, 2022
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) backscatter based above-ground biomass (AGB) estimates are limited by the saturation of the backscatter-AGB curve. This work explores the potential of combining backscatter with polarimetric SAR interferometry (PolInSAR ...

PolSAR and PolInSAR model based information estimation [PDF]

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2009
Speckle for multidimensional SAR data may be modeled as the combination of multiplicative and additive noise sources. As demonstrated, the use of this noise model does not corrupt the estimation of physical information from PolInSAR data. The definition of a model based PolInSAR filter allows also the computation of relative errors for estimated ...
