Distributive Politics and Electoral Competition
Journal of Economic Theory, 2002The institution of electoral politics is considered. The authors use the classical Downsian model of electoral competition in which two parties compete for the vote of the electorate in a symmetric zero-sum, perfect information game. This paper raises the question of the level of inequality generated by Downsian competition for redistribution.

Economic competition and political competition: A comment
Public Choice, 1980Unlike Stigler's original estimates, our re-estimation of his equations yields results which are consistent with economic theory. However, they raise questions regarding the extent to which the data provide a measure of support for the implications of his theory.
