Advanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.Electrical and electrochemical discharge methods for end‐of‐life lithium‐ion batteries are compared. Electrochemical discharge better preserves the composition and layered structure of Ni‐rich cathode materials while minimizing residual lithium compounds.
