This paper takes into account competing versions of freedoms and liberties from the Western tradition. There are competing accounts because of the variegated approaches to understanding freedom. There are also various advantages and disadvantages to these varieties of conceptual freedom.

Political Freedom and Corporate Payouts
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2016We study the effect of a country’s political freedom status on corporate payouts around the world. In both OLS and two-stage regressions, we find that firms in less free countries pay out more cash, suggesting that low political freedom is associated with a less friendly investment environment.
