ABSTRACT Flower colour variation is pivotal for plant evolution, ecological adaptation, and pollinator attraction. In the Liriodendron genus, L. tulipifera features a distinct orange petal stripe which is absent in L. chinense, driven by differential carotenoid accumulation, yet the underlying genetic mechanism remains unclear.

Germination and storage of pollen
Germination of pear pollen markedly improved when boric acid was added to the medium. The pollen was more sensitive to boron in water than in 10 % sugar solution. Supplying weak solutions of boron to pear branches before flowering resulted in a good germination of the pollen in sugar solution without boron.

ABSTRACT Brassica napus is the second most important oil crop worldwide. Number of primary branches (Branch number, BN) and silique number on the main inflorescence (SMI) are key yield‐related quantitative traits. Here, we cloned a major QTL, qDB.A09, which simultaneously influences BN and SMI.

ABSTRACT Control of fruit ripening, quality and yield is of major scientific, nutritional and commercial importance. The burst of ethylene (ET) production at the initiation of ripening is the most critical event controlling climacteric (CL) fruit ripening, yet little is known about how it is initiated.

ABSTRACT A key challenge for the genetic improvement of canola (Brassica napus), one of the world's most important oilseeds, is the limited natural variation for commercially important traits. The creation of new variation is hindered by the lack of functional knowledge about genes controlling these traits.
