Oligonucleotide‐based fluorescence in situ hybridization probes were developed in the model citrus species Citrus maxima. These probes were applied to comparative karyotyping across 14 species in the Rutaceae family. This analysis revealed chromosomal evolution in lineages that diverged from Citrus nearly 52 million years ago.

Callose (β-1,3 glucan) is essential for Arabidopsis pollen wall patterning, but not tube growth [PDF]
Background: Callose (β-1,3 glucan) separates developing pollen grains, preventing their underlying walls (exine) from fusing. The pollen tubes that transport sperm to female gametes also contain callose, both in their walls as well as in the plugs that ...

Chiasma variation and control in pollen mother cells and embryo-sac mother cells of rye
SUMMARYMean chiasma frequencies and the amounts of between-bivalent chiasma variation were computed for pollen mother cells (p.m.c.) and embryo-sac mother cells (e.m.c.) of five distinct inbred rye lines. Despite the considerable differences for both these metrics shown by the different lines, very little variation was seen between p.m.c.

Interaction Between Actin and Microtubules During Plant Development
ABSTRACT The dynamic interaction between actin filaments (AFs) and microtubules (MTs) plays a crucial role in regulating key developmental and physiological processes in plant cells, particularly in the formation of specialized cell types with distinct shapes and functions, such as pollen tubes, trichomes, and leaf epidermal cells.

ABSTRACT Of the three types of cytoskeleton known in animals—actin, microtubules, and intermediate filaments—only actin and microtubules exist in plants. Both play important roles in cellular shaping, organelle movement, organization of the endomembrane system, and cell signaling.

EMS induced mutagenicity in pollen mother cells of Sesbania Pea (Sesbania cannabina Poir.) [PDF]
Mutagenic effect of EMS on pollen mother cells of Sesbania cannabina has been investigated in the present cytogeneticalobservation. The progenies were obtained from seeds treated with four different time durations (1, 3, 5, and 7 hours) of 0.5%solution ...

Microsporogenesis and pollen formation in cassava
This article describes the complete microsporogenesis and pollen formation in cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) at the various developmental stages (pollen mother cell, meiosis, tetrads, early free spore, mid uninucleate, late uninucleate, binucleate ...

Apomeiotic pollen mother cell development in the apomictic Boechera species
Pollen mother cell (PMC) development in the apomictic Boechera species B. holboellii, B. gunnisoniana and B. divaricarpa were investigated by various cytological methods. In prophase I, in triploid species B. holboellii and B. gunnisoniana the individual chromosomes condensed into long strands within the nucleus. Then, in metaphase I, each PMC formed a

ABSTRACT Pollen is a male gametophyte of angiosperms. Following meiosis, the microspore undergoes an asymmetric division called pollen mitosis I (PMI), which produces two cells of different sizes: a large vegetative cell and a small generative cell. Polarized nuclear migration and positioning during PMI are important for successful pollen development ...
