Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

Techno-economic evaluation of electrocoagulation for cattle slaughterhouse wastewater treatment using aluminum electrodes in batch and continuous experiment

open access: yesSustainable Environment Research, 2023
This study aimed to investigate, from a techno-economic point of view, cattle slaughterhouse wastewater (CSWW) treatment via the electrocoagulation (EC) technique. A novel lab-scale EC unit with a 3 L volume was manufactured and tested.

Light pollution and the concentration of anthropogenic photons in the terrestrial atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Pollution Research, 2022, 13(9):101541, 2022
Light pollution can be rigorously described in terms of the volume concentration of anthropogenic photons (light quanta) in the terrestrial atmosphere. This formulation, consistent with the basic physics of the emission, scattering and absorption of light, allows one to express light pollution levels in terms of particle volume concentrations, in a ...

Ozone and Temperature May Hinder Adaptive Capacity of Mediterranean Perennial Grasses to Future Global Change Scenarios

open access: yesPlants, 2023
Climate warming is recognized as a factor that threatens plant species in Mediterranean mountains. Tropospheric ozone (O3) should also be considered as another relevant stress factor for these ecosystems since current levels chronically exceed thresholds

Rapid adsorption of benzotriazole onto oxidized carbon cloth as an easily separable adsorbent

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
A commercial carbon cloth (CC) was oxidized by HNO3 acid and the features of the plain and oxidized CC were evaluated. The results of characterization illustrated that HNO3 oxidization duplicated the oxygen-containing functional groups and the surface ...

Pollution and Pollution Control [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of Fall Meeting of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME, 1969
Pollution - the very word brings to mind in each of us a variety of abuses that man has perpetrated on his fellow man. lie has fouled the air, polluted streams and lakes and made vast dumping grounds out of once scenic areas. Water is impossible to destroy.

Air pollution: the "classical" pollutants. [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1981
Few disasters can have led to such great good as the four-day London "smog" of December 1952. Though its extreme concentrations of smoke and sulphur dioxide appear to have caused up to 4000 extra deaths,1 it provided the impetus for the Clean Air Act 1956.
