Poloxalene for prevention of legume bloat.
Abstract The effectiveness of poloxalene was compared with penicillin in the control of bloat in cattle experimentally grazed on Ladino clover. Experiment I involved the use of poloxalene incorporated in grain pellets and Experiment II the use of poloxalene in salt-molasses blocks.

Effects of Feeding Poloxalene on Milk Flavor
Abstract Cows in mid-lactation were pastured on bromegrass or rye or fed freshly cut alfalfa. Two sets of fistulated identical-twin dry cows were maintained on the same feed and feeding schedule. Half of the cows involved in each feeding trial were administered poloxalene twice daily at 0.044 g per kg of body weight.

Abstract Three experiments tested the efficacy of a nonionic surfactant, poloxalene, a polyoxypropylene polyoxyethylene block polymer, to control alfalfa bloat. In Experiment I, four Kansas dairy herds were used in the spring of 1964. Half of each herd served as controls and half were fed poloxalene. All were provided succulent alfalfa.

Nonionic Surfactant Vesicles in Ocular Delivery: Innovative Approaches and Perspectives
With the recent advancement in the field of ocular therapy, drug delivery approaches have been elevated to a new concept in terms of nonionic surfactant vesicles (NSVs), that is, the ability to deliver the therapeutic agent to a patient in a staggered profile.

Diet Composition and Dry Matter Intake of Beef Steers Grazing Tall Fescue and Alfalfa
ABSTRACT Alkanes are a noninvasive method to estimate dry matter intake (DMI) of grazing herbivores. Other cuticular wax components such as long chain fatty alcohols (LCOH) have been used for estimation of diet composition of ruminants eating mixed diets.

Expected Economic Potential of Substituting Legumes for Nitrogen in Bermudagrass Pastures
ABSTRACT Grazing warm‐season grass pastures with stocker cattle (Bos taurus) is an important economic activity in the southern Great Plains, and substantial increases in the price of N fertilizer have negatively affected profitability of forage producers.

Production and Economics of Grazing Alfalfa in the Southern Great Plains
ABSTRACT Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a high‐quality forage legume that may have potential to improve net returns to stocker cattle producers in the southern Great Plains. The objective of this 3‐yr field study was to compare the agronomic and economic performance of alfalfa grazing systems under two management strategies.

ABSTRACT Domestic ruminants select a mixed diet when grazing heterogeneous pastures. Adjacent monocultures allow diet preference to be evaluated without certain constraints that could influence diet selection; however, few forage species have been evaluated. Adjacent monocultures of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) and alfalfa (Medicago sativa

ABSTRACT Adjacent forage monocultures are a valuable tool to study the diet preference of grazing animals. Previous research has suggested that cattle will exhibit a partial preference for a legume over a grass regardless of forage species. The objective of this study was to determine if beef steers have a partial preference for alfalfa (Medicago ...
