Highly Degradable Polyester With Chemical and Thermal Stability Utilizing Oxidative Degradation of 2‐Thioethyl Ester

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Polyester with the structure of 2‐thioethyl ester reveals oxidative degradability via the oxidation to sulfone followed by base‐promoted β‐elimination. Since the degradation occurs by the nonnatural stimuli, these polymers are stable during use but can be degraded at the desired instant after use.

Platinum–Copper Dual‐Atom Catalyst Enables the Selective Electro‐Oxidation of 5‐Hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5‐Furandicarboxylic Acid

open access: yesSusMat, EarlyView.
A platinum–copper dual‐atom catalyst was developed for the selective electrooxidation of 5‐hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5‐furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) in alkaline solution, achieving a FDCA yield of 97.4% at 1.42 V. DFT and experimental analyses reveal that Pt atoms enrich the OH* coverage, driving deep oxidation of HMF on adjacent Cu atoms ...
