Response of Corn Yield to Water Retaining Agents, Inhibitors, and Corn Stalks Addition in Semi-arid Cropland

open access: yesBioResources
Drought, excessive use of nitrogen fertilizer, and decline in soil organic matter threaten corn production. This study investigated the potential of water retaining agents, inhibitors, and corn stalks in enhancing soil physicochemical properties to ...

Structural and functional analysis of Bacillus sarcosine oxidase and its activity toward cyclic imino acids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Sarcosine oxidase from Bacillus sp. (SoxB) recognizes l‐proline (l‐Pro), d‐proline (d‐Pro), and l‐thioproline (l‐Tpr) as minor substrates. In this study, we measured their absorption spectra, determined the crystal structures of their enzyme complexes, and performed site‐directed mutagenesis of key residues.

The 68,000-Dalton Neurofilament-Associated Polypeptide is a Component of Nonneuronal Cells and of Skeletal Myofibrils [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Purified preparations of 10-nm neurofilaments from rat spinal cord and bovine or porcine brain contain a predominant 68,000-dalton polypeptide. This polypeptide is also a major component of the neurofilaments that copurify with brain tubulin isolated by ...

Overexpression of CDT1 inhibits cell cycle progression at S phase by interacting with the mini‐chromosome maintenance complex and causes DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CDT1 is an essential protein for DNA replication licensing that loads the MCM complex, the eukaryotic replicative DNA helicase, onto replication origins. Overexpression of CDT1 induces cell cycle arrest at the S phase. Here we showed CDT1 inhibits the progression of replication forks by interacting with the MCM complex, leading to the stalling and ...

Variabilidade espacial da comunidade bacteriana intestinal de suínos suplementados com antibióticos ou extratos herbais Spacial variability of intestinal bacterial population of swine supplemented with antimicrobial or herbal extracts

The immobilization of Kluyveromyces fragilis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae in polyacrylamide gel : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Technology in Biotechnology at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
The search for new energy sources has indicated that biomass, in the form of green plant materials and biological wastes, can provide a perpetual energy source if converted to a useful form.

Cloning, expression, purification, and structural modeling of the Chandipura virus matrix protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol offers a guide for the cloning, expression, and purification of the Chandipura virus matrix protein using E. coli. It also includes a step‐by‐step procedure for cloning, expressing, and conducting fluorescence imaging of GFP‐fused Chandipura virus matrix protein in mammalian cell lines.

Homologous expression and purification of human HAX‐1 for structural studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol provides detailed instructions for cloning, expressing, and purifying large quantities of the intrinsically disordered human HAX‐1 protein, N‐terminally fused to a cleavable superfolder GFP, from mammalian cells. HAX‐1 is predicted to undergo posttranslational modifications and to interact with membranes, various cellular ...

Deletion mutants of bacteriophage phiX174 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Mutants of bacteriophage phiX174 have been isolated that are less dense than wild-type phiX particles in CsCl. When mutant viral (+) strand DNA and wild-type complementary (-) strand DNA are hybridized, the resulting duplex molecules have single-stranded
