Genetic variation in two populations of the marine calanoid copepod Acartia californiensis Trinast

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 1995
Genetic variation of the marine calanoid copepod Acartia californiensis Trinast was studied from two close populations, Estero de Punta Banda, Baja California (Mexico) and Mission Bay, California (USA).

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

The cooperative regulation of miR‐221 by APE1 and AUF1 impacts p27Kip1 defining a miR signature relevant for cervical cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...

Studies of adsorption thermodynamics and kinetics of Cr(III) and Ni(II) removal by polyacrylamide [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2012
Polyacrylamide (PAA), as an adsorbent was investigated for the removal of Ni(II) and Cr(III) metal ions from their synthesized aqueous solutions. The different variables affecting the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent such as contact time, pH of ...

Erythropoietin modulates hepatic inflammation, glucose homeostasis, and soluble epoxide hydrolase and epoxides in high‐fat diet‐induced obese mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Erythropoietin administration suppresses hepatic soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) expression, leading to increased CYP‐derived epoxides. This is associated with a shift in hepatic macrophage polarization characterized by reduced M1 markers and increased M2 markers, along with reduced hepatic inflammation, suppressed hepatic lipogenesis, and attenuated ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Urea Delays High-Temperature Crosslinking of Polyacrylamide for In Situ Preparation of an Organic/Inorganic Composite Gel

open access: yesGels
To address the rapid crosslinking reaction and short stability duration of polyacrylamide gel under high salinity and temperature conditions, this paper proposes utilizing urea to delay the nucleophilic substitution crosslinking reaction among ...

Synthesis of polyacrylamide in aqueous solution: solubility

open access: yesOrbital: The Electronic Journal of Chemistry, 2012
The synthesis of aqueous polyacrylamide solution was evaluated for its solubility in water. The reactions were performed using the acrylamide monomer, solvent and initiator (K2S2O8), with the system under magnetic stirring and heating (60°C) for 4 hours.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Enhancing fire resistance in wood with high-water retention silica gel: A promising flame-retardant solution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society
This study aims to evaluate water retention and flame-retardant properties of silica gel prepared using anionic polyacrylamide (HPAM), gluconate- delta-lactone (GDL) and aluminum citrate (AlCit).
