Cross-Nucleation between Polymorphs: Quantitative Modeling of Kinetics and Morphology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cross-nucleation is defined as the nucleation of one polymorph on the surface of another polymorph of the same substance. Although the description of this particular form of heterogeneous nucleation is mainly phenomenological, recently dedicated ...

Disordered N‐termini enhance the thermostability of SGNH‐hydrolase family polyesterases

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Polyesters are widely used plastics that persist in the environment due to their resistance to degradation. Microbial polyesterases potentially offer recycling and remediation solutions. However, most polyesterases lack the thermostability and catalytic efficiency required for practical application.

Heat Sealability and Convertibility of Cellulose Film in Vertical Form, Fill and Seal Machine for Food Packaging Applications

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 33-48, January 2026.
The study demonstrated that regenerated cellulose films exhibit limited sealability at elevated temperatures due to thermal degradation. Serrated sealing tools enabled tighter seals especially in triple point area, while flat tools resulted in microchannel leaks.

Development of Nanocomposite Bioactive Diffusion Films (BDFs) Combined With Gamma Irradiation for Control of the Rice Weevil Sitophilus oryzae, a Stored Product Pest

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT The fumigant toxicity of 6 essential oils (EOs) (Mediterranean, Southern, citrus, cinnamon, Asian, and savory thyme), 2 citrus extracts (CEs: organic OCE and natural NCE), and 2 active formulations (microfluidized nanoemulsions AF‐1 and AF‐2) was investigated for control of rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae), a stored product pest.

Flow-induced crystallization of polybutene-1 and effect of molecular parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
There are two main goals of this thesis: to investigate the flow-induced crystallization behaviour of Polybutene-1 (PB-1 samples, and to study the effects of molecular parameters on the crystallization behaviour While flow-induced crystallization is not ...

Cold-crystallization of poly(butylene 2,6-naphthalate) following Ostwald's rule of stages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Melt-crystallization of poly (butylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PBN) at temperatures lower than about 160 \ub0C follows Ostwald's rule of stages, leading first to formation of a transient smectic liquid crystalline phase (LC) which then may convert in a second ...

Does Microplastic Ingestion Affect Cognition and Brain Gene Expression in Zebrafish, Danio rerio?

open access: yesEthology, Volume 132, Issue 1, Page 41-54, January 2026.
Zebrafish (Danio rerio) were exposed to diets containing microplastics from synthetic or biodegradable polymers. The synthetic polymer led to a significant reduction in brain activity, while visual and spatial learning as well as cognitive flexibility remained unaffected.

Miscanthus‐Derived Products for Material Applications: Can They Contribute to Greenhouse Gas Emission Mitigation?

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 1, January 2026.
Miscanthus is a promising lignocellulosic biomass for diverse material applications. Biobased products are generally expected to offer greenhouse gas advantages over fossil alternatives, yet assessments vary due to methodological choices. This study systematically reviewed 20 peer‐reviewed studies covering 188 comparisons of miscanthus‐derived and ...

Nanoparticles From Infusion Beverage Wastes and Their Effect on PLA/PHB Plasticized Composite Behavior

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 46, December 10, 2025.
Schematic overview of the valorization of yerba mate and black tea waste into lignocellulosic nanoparticles (nYM, nBT), incorporated into PLA/PHB films plasticized with maleinized corn oil (MCO). The resulting bionanocomposites exhibited enhanced barrier and mechanical performance, making them suitable for biodegradable food packaging applications ...
