Compression-Induced Polycrystal-Glass Transition in Binary Crystals

open access: yesPhysical Review X, 2018
A polycrystal will transform into a glass when its grain size is sufficiently reduced. However, it is not clear how the polycrystal-glass boundary can be identified, whether the boundary is a sharp point or a crossover regime, and what features exist at ...

High-Rate Crystal/Polycrystal Dislocation Dynamics

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
The present report builds upon work recently published on crystal and polycrystal dislocation mechanics behaviors assessed, in part, in split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) and shock loading investigations.

Metal Crystal/Polycrystal Plasticity and Strengths

open access: yesMetals, 2022
A brief historical sketch is given of Taylor’s dislocation density-based model description, leading to the prediction of a parabolic, tensile, stress–strain curve for the plastic deformation of aluminum.

Effective diffusion properties of a polycrystal

open access: yesSt. Petersburg Polytechnical University Journal: Physics and Mathematics, 2022
The paper deals with the calculation of polycrystalline material effective diffusion coefficients. The polycrystalline material has been simulated by two-phase composite consisting of matrix and spheroidal inhomogeneities.

Piezoelectric characteristics of PVA/DL-alanine polycrystals in d33 mode

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: In this study, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-mixed DL-alanine (PVA/DL-alanine) polycrystals are fabricated, and their piezoelectric characteristics in the d33 mode are investigated. The d33 piezoelectric coefficients of the PVA/DL-alanine polycrystals

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

Elastic Properties and Thermal Expansion Behavior of a Polycrystalline VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The high‐entropy alloy (HEA) V20Mn20Fe20Co20Ni20 (composition in at.%) can be made single‐phase face‐centered cubic (FCC) when annealed above 1338 K followed by water quenching. In this state, the alloy exhibits the greatest strength‐ductility combination of any quinary single‐phase FCC HEA.

Extremely Long Electron Lifetime in Spontaneously Passivated Polycrystalline Perovskite Layers via Illumination‐Assisted Trap Filling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are promising next‐generation photovoltaics. The high performance of PSCs is attributed to the long carrier lifetimes of perovskite photoabsorbers. However, the carrier lifetimes of polycrystalline perovskite layers, which serve as the photoabsorbers in practical PSCs, have remained limited to several tens of ...
