Multiscale Perspectives on Perovskite Instability: From Atomistic Deformation to Device Degradation in Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale perspectives on how excess charges in soft lead halide perovskites induce operational instability in photovoltaic devices are presented. Localized carriers formed under thermodynamic non‐equilibrium states modify atomistic interactions and drive lattice distortions, accelerating device degradation.

Simulations on the mechanical behavior of dual-phase nanostructured CuZr alloy

open access: yes四川大学学报. 自然科学版, 2019
The effects of grain size on the deformation mechanisms of nano-polycrystal Cu and dual-phase nanostructured Cu/CuZr composites under tensile loading are studied by molecular dynamics method. The results show that for nano-polycrystal Cu with small grain

Orientational Effects in the Low Pair Continuum of Aluminium

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We compare the predictions of the dynamic structure factor (DSF) of ambient polycrystalline aluminium from time‐dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) in the pair continuum regime to recent ultrahigh resolution x‐ray Thomson scattering measurements, collected at the European XFEL.

Finite Element Analysis for Li Batteries at the Mesoscale

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Finite element analysis (FEA), through multi‐physics coupling, has been widely employed to calculate mesoscale structures in LIBs that exhibit inherent randomness and disorder (Figure a). It has been extensively applied to the investigation of critical phenomena such as Li dendrite evolution, Li+ concentration gradients, SEI film growth, particle ...

Materials and Music: Selective Imperfection as a Generative Framework for Analysis, Creativity and Discovery

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Materials, EarlyView.
Vibrations in matter, from spider webs to molecules, water to flames, share a grammar with music. We propose that creativity emerges when constraints force expansion beyond existing possibilities. Selective imperfection restores balance, enabling invention.

Multifractal Characteristics of Gain Structures: A Universal Law of Polycrystalline Strain-Hardening Behaviors

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
The quantitative relationship between material microstructures, such as grain distributions, and the nonlinear strain-hardening behaviors of polycrystalline metals has not yet been completely understood.

Artificial intelligence–driven decoupling structure–activity relationship for lithium‐ion batteries

open access: yesInfoScience, EarlyView.
Artificial intelligence can efferently accelerate the high‐throughput screening of battery materials, the analysis of multiphase mechanisms, and the precise prediction of capacity and cycle life. This review systematically summarizes the applications of machine learning (ML) in decoupling the complex structure‐activity relationships of lithium‐ion ...

Optical properties of translucent zirconia: A review of the literature

open access: yesThe EuroBiotech Journal, 2019
Translucent monolithic zirconia is the newest option of zirconia-based ceramics, which aimed to substitute the opaque classic yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZPs) in more demanding esthetic cases.

Fracture of the Passive Film on Reinforcing Steel in Concrete Under Mechanical Loading

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Bending load induces a flexural crack in reinforced concrete specimen. Above the critical load inducing crack, a macro cell corrosion current is recorded by steel coupons embedded in the concrete. The macro cell current corresponds to the rupture of the passive film. ABSTRACT This study investigates the fracture of the passive film on reinforcing steel
