Nucleation of amorphous shear bands at nanotwins in boron suboxide [PDF]
The roles of grain boundaries and twin boundaries in mechanical properties are well understood for metals and alloys. However, for covalent solids, their roles in deformation response to applied stress are not established.

Thin Fluoride Insulators for Improved 2D Transistors: From Deposition Methods to Recent Applications
2D materials hold significant promise for next‐generation electronic and optoelectronic devices, but suitable gate dielectrics are still a challenge. Fluoride insulators, offering inert, dangling‐bond‐free surfaces, have recently emerged as strong candidates. This review covers recent publications on high‐quality fluoride thin‐film deposition and their

Wear-adaptive optimization of in-process conditioning parameters during face plunge grinding of PcBN
Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride is a very hard material. Machining of this material is performed by grinding with diamond tools. Due to its high hardness, grinding tools are subjected to severe microscopic and macroscopic tool wear.

A combined experimental–numerical investigation of fracture of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride [PDF]
Abstract Numerical modelling of a series of experimental Single Edge V-Notched Beam tests was carried out for a number of grades of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride using the finite volume method (FV) and cohesive zone model approach. The effect of notch root radius observed experimentally was reproduced numerically via a unique CZM for each ...

Elastic properties and electronic structure of the lanthanum sulfides MLa2S4 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba)
Abstract CaLa2S4 sulfides are promising transparent ceramics for infrared windows application in harsh environment conditions, but the theoretical studies on the mechanical properties of this material are limited. Using density functional theory calculations, we performed a systematic theoretical study on the structural, electronic, bonding, and ...

Low‐temperature sintering of BaTiO3‐based semiconducting ceramics using sodium vapor
Powder compacts of BaTiO3 were sintered by heating with vaporized sodium metal at 800°C. Ceramic products were black color and electrically conductive due to reducing sintering atmosphere containing sodium. Positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor property was observed for the ceramics after post‐annealing in oxygen‐containing atmosphere.

Reaction sintering of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride at high pressure and temperature.
Single phase sintered compact of cBN (polycrystalline cBN) may be prepared under high pressure and temperature (>5.2GPa, >1350°C) from hBN compact carrying a small amount of Mg3BN3 as a catalyst. This work investigated the influence of the amount of Mg3BN3 added to the hBN compact on the microstructure and the thermal conductivity of the prepared ...

Synthesis and Characterization of Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride Composites with Al Binder [PDF]
The PcBN materials were sintered from the cBN-Al systems under high-pressure and high-temperature, and the mechanical properties, composition and microstructure of prepared samples were analyzed. The results show that the microstructure is fairly even and the binding phase is uniformly distributed in its volume.

State‐of‐the‐Art, Insights, and Perspectives for MOFs‐Nanocomposites and MOF‐Derived (Nano)Materials
Different approaches to MOF‐NP composite formation, such as ship‐in‐a‐bottle, bottle‐around‐the‐ship and in situ one‐step synthesis, are used. Owing to synergistic effects, the advantageous features of the components of the composites are beneficially combined, and their individual drawbacks are mitigated.
