Bioassays with terrestrial and aquatic species as monitoring tools of hydrocarbon degradation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this study chemical analyses and ecotoxicity tests were applied for the assessment of a heavily hydrocarbon-contaminated soil prior and after the application of a remediation procedure that consisted in the stimulation of soil autochthonous ...

A High‐Performance and Fully Recyclable Supramolecular Nanofibrous Membrane for Multifunctional Air Filtration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A green, thermoreversible self‐assembly strategy yields a multifunctional and recyclable supramolecular nanofibrous membrane. Graphene oxide (GO) nanosheet acts as a heterogeneous nucleation‐templating agent, simultaneously modulating the supramolecular crystal packing while tailoring the nanofibrous architecture for elite performance.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sugarcane juice

open access: yesFood Chemistry, 2009
Abstract Sugarcane juice is a common beverage in many Brazilian cities. At harvesting season most sugarcane plantation is burnt and this procedure has been shown as an important source of PAHs emission. In the present study 80 samples of sugarcane juice collected from two Brazilian cities, in two different periods, were analysed for the presence of ...

Environmental Impacts, Health Risks, and Biodegradation Strategies of Fluorene and Other Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are organic compounds, composed of two or more fused benzene rings sourced from unburned fossil fuels and petroleum, recognized for their wide presence in the environment and harmful impacts on human health and ...

MagNanoTrap Enrichment Empowers Ultra‐Sensitive Quantification of Mixed Nanoplastic Particles From Environmental Water Samples

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Fe3O4 nanoparticles coated with the bifunctional peptide LCI‐DZ‐MBP1, where LCI binds the iron oxide surface and MBP1 acts as a universal plastic‐binding peptide, combined with pyrolysis‐gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py‐GC/MS), enable efficient enrichment, precise detection, and quantification of mixed plastics (PS, PE, PP, PET, PMMA, PC, Nylon

Site-selective covalent functionalization at interior carbon atoms and on the rim of circumtrindene, a C36H12 open geodesic polyarene

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2014
Circumtrindene (6, C36H12), one of the largest open geodesic polyarenes ever reported, exhibits fullerene-like reactivity at its interior carbon atoms, whereas its edge carbons react like those of planar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Bacterial cell sensing and signaling pathway for external polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: The mechanism by which a bacterial cell senses external nutrients remains largely unknown. In this study, we identified a bacterial cell sensing system for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a common marine PAH-using bacterium ...

Optimization Strategy of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Contaminated Media Bioremediation through Biosurfactant Addition

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2014
A microbial surfactant was investigated for its potential to enhance bioavailability and, hence, the biodegradation of PAHs contaminated soil. Phenanthrene, a 3-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), was chosen as a model target compound.
