Improved prediction of twin anemia–polycythemia sequence by delta middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity: new antenatal classification system

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2019
To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of delta middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity (MCA‐PSV) > 0.5 multiples of the median (MoM) and compare its predictive value with that of the current MCA‐PSV cut‐off values of > 1.5 MoM in the donor and

Therapeutic inhibition of HIF2α reverses polycythemia and pulmonary hypertension in murine models of two human diseases.

open access: yesBlood, 2020
Polycythemia and pulmonary hypertension are two human diseases for which better therapies are needed. Upregulation of hypoxia inducible factor2α (HIF2α) and its target genes, erythropoietin (EPO) and endothelin-1 causes polycythemia and pulmonary ...

JAK2 V617F mutation negative erythrocytosis (or how to more simply perform diagnosis and treat a patient with increased hematocrit)

open access: yesMultidisciplinary Respiratory Medicine, 2011
Summary This case report focuses on a 71-year old patient affected by unknown dyspnea and erythrocytosis referred by his general practitioner to our center for specialist advice after a hematological examination had excluded polycythemia vera on grounds ...

Ubiquitination of transcription factors in cancer: unveiling therapeutic potential

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In cancer, dysregulated ubiquitination of transcription factors contributes to the uncontrolled growth and survival characteristics of tumors. Tumor suppressors are degraded by aberrant ubiquitination, or oncogenic transcription factors gain stability through ubiquitination, thereby promoting tumorigenesis.

Targeted deep sequencing in polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia.

open access: yesBlood Advances, 2016
Polycythemia vera (PV) is characterized by JAK2 and essential thrombocythemia (ET) by JAK2, calreticulin (CALR), and myeloproliferative leukemia virus oncogene (MPL) mutations; we describe the occurrence and prognostic relevance of DNA sequence variants ...

Addressing Anemia in High‐Altitude Populations: Global Impact, Prevalence, Challenges, and Potential Solutions

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
Key challenges in diagnosing anemia in high‐altitude populations include variability in hemoglobin (Hb) concentration, associated pathological conditions, altitude‐induced plasma volume changes, and environmental factors such as contamination and nutrition.

Senp1 drives hypoxia-induced polycythemia via GATA1 and Bcl-xL in subjects with Monge's disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this study, because excessive polycythemia is a predominant trait in some high-altitude dwellers (chronic mountain sickness [CMS] or Monge's disease) but not others living at the same altitude in the Andes, we took advantage of this human experiment ...

Genetic variation at MECOM, TERT, JAK2 and HBS1L-MYB predisposes to myeloproliferative neoplasms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Clonal proliferation in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) is driven by somatic mutations in JAK2, CALR or MPL, but the contribution of inherited factors is poorly characterized. Using a three-stage genome-wide association study of 3,437 MPN cases and 10,

Sheep femoral artery occlusion is well tolerated and does not result in ischemia

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Left femoral artery occlusion (yellow arrows) can be seen shortly after the lateral femoral circumflex artery origin, with distal arterial reconstitution. Sheep with femoral artery occlusion showed no change in pain scores nor mobility, thus making them an appropriate model for novel small diameter femoral artery graft studies. Abstract Objective Sheep

ERYTHROPOIESIS REACTION TO TUMOR GROWTH IN LUNG CANCER PATIENTS

open access: yesСибирский онкологический журнал, 2017
Background. In addition to the transport of oxygen in tissues, erythrocytes participate in maintaining homeostasis therefore their qualitative and quantitative characterization may reflect a number of changes occurring in the body.
