Thickness of Polyelectrolyte Layers of Separately Confined Bacteria Alters Key Physiological Parameters on a Single Cell Level

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2019
Confinement of bacterial cells in a matrix or in capsules is an integral part of many biotechnological applications. Here, the well-known layer-by-layer method of deposition of a polyelectrolyte film a few nanometers in thickness to confine separated ...

Polyelectrolyte Solutions with Multivalent Salts

open access: yes, 1998
We investigate the thermodynamic properties of a polyelectrolyte solution in a presence of {\it multivalent} salts. The polyions are modeled as rigid cylinders with the charge distributed uniformly along the major axis. The solution, besides the polyions,

Adhesive Double‐Network Granular Organogel E‐Skin

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce a double‐network granular organogel adhesive for electronic skin, overcoming adhesion and strength trade‐offs. It provides reversible, robust bonding and ionic conductivity, enabling wearable and soft robotic e‐skin. Thanks to the e‐skin adhesive, a soft robotic trunk can recognize touch, temperature, humidity, and acidity.

Bioabsorbable Endovascular Adhesive Tape (BEAT) for Improving Vascular Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bioabsorbable endovascular adhesive tape (BEAT) platform based on a hierarchical polyelectrolyte complex is developed to enhance drug delivery in the DCB system. The coating enables rapid transfer to the vessel, provides short‐term mechanical support, and promotes both immediate transfer and long‐term retention of drugs at the lesion site.

The Role of Ionic Liquids at the Biological Interfaces in Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ionic liquids (ILs) are highlighted as key artificial ionic materials that bridge biological ion‐based signaling and electronic devices. By understanding their composition, structure, function relationships, and mechanisms, ILs can advance from high performance electrolyte to core materials enabling integrated, multifunctional bioelectronics for ...

Dilute but Dense – Reversible Crosslinking Enables Water‐Rich (Bio)polymer Condensates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Reversible crosslinking between two types of (bio)polymers drives liquid–liquid phase separation even in good solvent. The arrangement of binding motifs controls condensate formation and density, and internal network structure. Simulations and theory reveal a closed‐loop coexistence phase diagram at very low monomer concentrations and re‐entrant ...

3D‐Printed Ion‐Conductive Hydrogels with Tunable Mechanical–Electrical Properties for Multimodal Sign Language Recognition

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work successfully fabricated ion‐conductive hydrogels with low hysteresis and high conductivity using 3D printing technology. By adjusting the component ratios, the properties of the hydrogels can be tuned to meet diverse sensing requirements. Finally, a multimodal sensing sign language recognition system was constructed based on this hydrogel ...
