Polygodial-induced noradrenaline release in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells

Toxicology in Vitro, 1997
Polygodial is a natural sesquiterpene which exhibits pronounced pungency and a powerful antifeedant activity. At low concentrations, which do not alter general cell membrane permeability, polygodial increases the intracellular concentration of free calcium ([Ca(2+)](i)).

Polygodial induces inositol phosphate turnover in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells

Neuroscience Letters, 1996
The pungent sesquiterpenoid unsaturated dialdehydes polygodial and isovelleral, have previously been shown to increase the intracellular free calcium concentration [Ca2+]i in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, partly by a release from intracellular Ca2+ stores, whereas the non-pungent compound epipolygodial, had no effect on the [Ca2+]i. In this study,

ChemInform Abstract: EFFICIENT TOTAL SYNTHESES OF POLYGODIAL AND DRIMENIN

Chemischer Informationsdienst, 1981

Determination of the sesquiterpene dialdehyde polygodial by high‐pressure liquid chromatography

Phytochemical Analysis, 1994
AbstractA high‐pressure liquid chromatographic procedure for the determination of the antifeedant polygodial in Polygonum hydropiper leaves was developed. For leaves, the method consists of a selective extraction with hexane: EtOAc (8:2), pre‐purification of the evaporated extract over a solid phase C2 column, separation with a C18 RP‐HPLC column and ...

Pharmacological characterisation of the plant sesquiterpenes polygodial and drimanial as vanilloid receptor agonists

Biochemical Pharmacology, 2006
This study was designed to assess the participation of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) in the biological effects induced by the plant-derived sesquiterpenes polygodial and drimanial. In rat isolated urinary bladder, polygodial and drimanial produced a tachykinin-mediated contraction that was inhibited by combination of NK(1) and NK(2 ...

ChemInform Abstract: SYNTHESIS OF ALL POSSIBLE STEREOISOMERS OF POLYGODIAL

Chemischer Informationsdienst, 1984

Synthesis of both the enantiomers of polygodial, an insect antifeedant sesouiterpene

Tetrahedron, 1986
Abstract Both the natural and unnatural enantiomers of polygodial, an insect antifeedant sesquiterpene of the drimane family, were synthesized starting from ( S) -3- hydroxy-2,2-dimethylcyclohexanone as a single chiral source.

Presence of polygodial and drimenol in Drimys populations from Chile

Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, 2007
Drimys winteri (Winteraceae) is a tree with medicinal properties native to Chile. Its bark contains polygodial and drimenol in unknown quantities, with antimicrobial and antinociceptive activity. The purpose of the present study was to quantify polygodial and drimenol concentrations in leaves of five populations of D.

Occurrence of polygodial in plant organs and tissue culture of Polygonum hydropiper

Physiologia Plantarum, 1994
Shoots of Polygonum hydropiper L. (waterpepper), especially in the leaves and flower‐heads, contain significant amounts of the sesquiterpenoid polygodial, a compound with a potential use as a natural pesticide. The polygodial content of the tepals is particularly high: up to 8.5% of the dry weight.

Antimicrobial Agents from Licaria puchuri-major and Their Synergistic Effect with Polygodial

Journal of Natural Products, 1992
The resistance of the seeds of Licaria puchuri-major (Lauraceae) to decomposition in nature seems to be due largely to chemical defense, since its n-hexane extract contains antimicrobial principles in quantity, with a broad antimicrobial spectrum. In order to identify the active principles, the n-hexane extract was steam-distilled to yield a distillate
