Numerical Investigation of the Influence of Interparticle Cohesion During the Shear Behavior of Granular Soil

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Interparticle cohesive forces play a crucial role in governing the shear behavior of many soils; however, quantifying this effect remains challenging due to limited microscopic insights available from laboratory experiments. In this context, the current study aims to investigate the influence of microscale cohesion on the shear response using ...

External Stimuli‐Activable Single‐Atom Nanozymes for Bioapplications

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Stimuli‐activable single‐atom nanozymes (SANs) are reviewed from materials design to biomedical applications. We explain electronic‐structure tuning principles and synthesis strategies that maximize the responsiveness of metal active sites and supports to light, ultrasound, and magnetic fields.

Breaking Inversion Symmetry via Vanadium Coordination Engineering in Bismuth Vanadium Selenites

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Vanadium coordination engineering induces symmetry breaking in bismuth selenites by transforming symmetry‐compensated VO6/VO5F units into directionally aligned VO5 polyhedra. The resulting non‐antiparallel vanadyl arrangement eliminates dipole cancellation and stabilizes a polar noncentrosymmetric framework with nonlinear optical activity.

Computational Fluid Dynamic‐Discrete Element Method Study of Biocarbon Injection in Electric Arc Furnaces Using Shrouding Jet Injectors

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This study uses coupled computational fluid dynamic‐discrete element method (CFD–DEM) simulations to investigate biomass particle injection through a shrouded lance in electric arc furnaces (EAFs). It examines how biomass properties, feed rate, and lance design affect particle dispersion and delivery efficiency.

QuickCSG: Fast Arbitrary Boolean Combinations of N Solids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
QuickCSG computes the result for general N-polyhedron boolean expressions without an intermediate tree of solids. We propose a vertex-centric view of the problem, which simplifies the identification of final geometric contributions, and facilitates its ...

Near‐Atomic Investigation on the Elemental Redistribution During Coprecipitation of Nano‐Sized Kappa‐Type and B2 Precipitates in an Al‐Alloyed Lightweight Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Elemental redistribution during coprecipitation of kappa (κ)‐type and B2 precipitates in an Al‐alloyed lightweight steel is revealed by atom probe tomography (APT) and density functional theory (DFT). Fe and Ni redistribution promotes the evolution of B2 phase from NiAl‐type toward FeAl‐type and improves the stability of κ and B2 phases during ...

Experimental and Numerical Flow Assessment of the Main and Additional Tract of Prototype Differential Brake Valve

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The throughput of the pneumatic brake valve is a key parameter in ensuring fast and safe vehicle braking. The instantaneous value of this parameter determines the short response time of the system to an operator’s force.

Numerical approach for the simulation of flow-induced noise around a structure with complex geometry: High-speed train bogie in a cavity [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Fluid Engineering
The bogie region is a significant source of aerodynamic noise on high-speed trains. Owing to its complex geometry and flow field, numerical simulations using computational fluid dynamics are especially challenging. The main challenge is to achieve a grid
