A Stress/Displacement Virtual Element Method for Plane Elasticity Problems

open access: yes, 2017
The numerical approximation of 2D elasticity problems is considered, in the framework of the small strain theory and in connection with the mixed Hellinger-Reissner variational formulation. A low-order Virtual Element Method (VEM) with a-priori symmetric

Tuning the Growth Pattern of Triangular Silver Nanoplates from Lateral to Vertical by Secondary Metal Addition

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 26, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
What happens, if in the synthesis of flat silver platelets, the slow deposition of silver along twinning faults is disturbed by the addition of a nobler metal? We have looked into it and found a way to fine‐tune the metal deposition in lateral and vertical direction.

CFD Simulation Of Air-Flow Over A „Quarter-Circular” Object Valided By Experimental Measurement

open access: yesTransactions of the VŠB: Technical University of Ostrava, Civil Engineering Series, 2015
A Computer-Fluid-Dynamic (CFD) simulation of air-flow around quarter-circular object using commercial software ANSYS Fluent was used to study iteration of building to air-flow.

Combined 3D thinning and greedy algorithm to approximate realistic particles with corrected mechanical properties

open access: yes, 2019
The shape of irregular particles has significant influence on micro- and macro-scopic behavior of granular systems. This paper presents a combined 3D thinning and greedy set-covering algorithm to approximate realistic particles with a clump of ...

Enabling High‐Loading Aqueous Zinc–Sulfur Batteries Via a Ni Single‐Atom Catalytic Host with Hierarchical Sulfur Reservoirs

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A Ni single‐atom‐anchored N‐doped carbon hollow host synergizes atomic Ni‐N4 sites with a hierarchical porous skeleton, enabling high‐sulfur‐loading aqueous Zn–S batteries with high capacity, low polarization, and excellent cycling stability for flexible energy storage.

Geodesics in Heat

open access: yes, 2012
We introduce the heat method for computing the shortest geodesic distance to a specified subset (e.g., point or curve) of a given domain. The heat method is robust, efficient, and simple to implement since it is based on solving a pair of standard linear

High‐Voltage Stability of LiCoO2 Cathode Materials Composited With Vanadium‐Based Glass Coatings

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Vanadium‐based glasses show fluidity and good wettability toward other materials at low temperatures. The controlled precipitation of nanocrystals in vanadium‐based glasses enhances the material's mechanical properties and electrical conductivity. The VPFL coatings bond to the LiCoO2 interface via chemical bonds.

Simulation and Exploration of Offshore Building Forms for Effective Wind Induction Under Multi-Directional Wind Loads

open access: yesBuildings
In deep-sea environments characterized by global climate change and frequent typhoons, the long-term structural stability of offshore buildings depends on the adaptability of their morphology to complex, multi-directional wind loads.

A Review of Recent Advances in Discretization Methods, a Posteriori Error Analysis, and Adaptive Algorithms for Numerical Modeling in Geosciences

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2014
Two research subjects in geosciences which lately underwent significant progress are treated in this review. In the first part, we focus on one key ingredient for the numerical approximation of the Darcy flow problem, namely the discretization of ...

Antibacterial Activity of Heteropolytungstates Against Proteus mirabilis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, EarlyView.
We investigated the in vitro antibacterial activity of several heteropolytungstates against P. mirabilis, a drug‐resistant pathogen. All tested polyanions inhibited bacterial growth, with the Preyssler–Pope–Jeannin polyanion P5W30 exhibiting the highest activity (MIC = 0.78 mg/mL).
