Comparison of a Miniaturized Implantable Two‐Stage Rotodynamic Blood Pump to Equivalent Single‐Stage Concepts

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
This study aims to evaluate the potential of a multistage pump design to enhance hemocompatibility in left ventricular assist devices. We found that the two‐stage concept offers favorable hemolysis measures compared to single‐stage designs, as the reduction in peak shear stresses outweighs the disadvantage associated with prolonged residence time ...

A Survey of Methods for Constructing 3D Urban Models From Point Clouds

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
The survey outlines a general process for constructing 3D models from point clouds and categorizes the methods based on their use of templates, basic surface primitives, hybrid approaches, or linear primitives. Additionally, the survey reviews the datasets and benchmarks that are essential for testing and training the developed methods.

Contouring Signed Distance Fields by Approximating Gradients

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Signed distance fields are often represented by discrete samples (e.g., on a grid). Recovering the contour implicitly represented by the distance samples requires an approximation algorithm. Several recent approaches have shown that exploiting the information carried in each distance sample by explicitly constructing a surface point gives ...

Enhancing stroke risk stratification in atrial fibrillation through non‐Newtonian blood modelling and Gaussian process emulation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Non‐Newtonian modelling and GPEs for stroke risk in atrial fibrilation patients. Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common heart arrhythmia, linked to a five‐fold increase in stroke risk. The left atrial appendage (LAA), prone to blood stasis, is a common thrombus formation site in AF patients.

Nonlinear Response‐History Analyses of Masonry and Mixed Structures With HybriDFEM

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 55, Issue 8, Page 1694-1709, 10 July 2026.
ABSTRACT The hybrid discrete‐finite element (HybriDFEM) method, previously developed to perform static and modal analysis in discrete and coupled discrete‐finite element models, is extended to nonlinear response‐history analyses. The equations of motion for the HybriDFEM model are solved through various numerical time‐integration schemes, both explicit

Growth‐stage adaptive ventilation strategy for compact cultivation systems based on airflow simulation

open access: yesAgricultural &Environmental Letters, Volume 11, Issue 1, June 2026.
Abstract Airflow design in compact cultivation systems is often overlooked despite its importance for microclimate and crop performance. This study aimed to determine whether growth‐stage‐aware ventilation strategies are necessary for effective airflow in small chambers. Using graphics processing unit accelerated, computer‐based airflow simulations, we

Multi‐Goal‐Oriented Anisotropic Error Control and Mesh Adaptivity for Time‐Dependent Convection‐Dominated Problems

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT In this work, we present an anisotropic multi‐goal error control based on the dual weighted residual (DWR) method for time‐dependent convection–diffusion–reaction (CDR) equations. Motivated by former work, we combine multiple goals to single error functionals with weights chosen as algorithmic parameters.

Acquisition of Self‐Reversed Magnetization in Greigite Driven by Antiparallel Vortex‐Core Coupling During Low‐Temperature Oxidation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract Self‐reversed magnetization, acquired antiparallel to the external field, can complicate the interpretation of paleomagnetic directional records, particularly in altered greigite‐bearing sediments with anomalous magnetizations. The underlying physical process for this self‐reversal remains poorly constrained.

Relationship Between Filament‐Polymerizing Muscle Myosin and Droplets Generated by Liquid–Liquid Phase Separation

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 9, 14 May 2026.
A droplet formed by liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) that has deformed and even developed a protrusion due to the inclusion of meshwork structures formed by the assembly of myosin filaments. So far, such droplet deformation has not been observed and was not possible with either DNA or actin filaments.

Lipid Nanoparticles for the Delivery of CRISPR/Cas9 Machinery to Enable Site‐Specific Integration of CFTR and Mutation‐Agnostic Disease Rescue

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 36, 4 May 2026.
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are optimized to co‐deliver Cas9‐encoding messenger RNA (mRNA), a single guide RNA (sgRNA) targeting the endogenous cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene, and homologous linear double‐stranded donor DNA (ldsDNA) templates encoding CFTR.
