Cluster‐Mediated Solute Stabilization and Shear‐Bypass Synergistic Strengthening in High‐Alloyed Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 25, 4 May 2026.
This study demonstrates that in high‐alloy systems, nanoclusters with high solute tolerance can effectively suppress compositional segregation. This mitigation leads to a concurrent 18.7% increase in strength and 41.5% improvement in ductility, which is attributed to a shear‐bypass synergistic strengthening mechanism. The findings provide a new pathway

Trust‐region filter algorithms utilizing Hessian information for gray‐box optimization

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 72, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Optimizing industrial processes often involves gray‐box models that couple algebraic glass‐box equations with black‐box components lacking analytic derivatives. Such systems challenge derivative‐based solvers. The classical trust‐region filter (TRF) algorithm provides a robust framework but requires extensive parameter tuning and numerous ...

Origins of Li2S‐Rich Layer Formation at Li6PS5Cl|Li Interface: Insights from First‐Principles Simulations

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
All‐solid‐state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) using sulfide electrolytes such as Li6PS5Cl (LPSC) offer high ionic conductivity and high safety, yet their performance remains limited by reductive instability at the Li‐metal interface. Here, density functional theory (DFT) calculations combined with ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations are used ...

The Reactive Extrusion Cationization of Starches as a Novel Physicochemical Surface Modification Method

open access: yesBiopolymers, Volume 117, Issue 3, May 2026.
Native starches from different botanical sources were cationized by reactive extrusion using 3% glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (GTAC). The process, performed under controlled thermal zones, promoted the incorporation of quaternary ammonium groups onto the starch backbone.

Stereoscopic Serpentine Channel‐Based Cold Plate Design for Enhanced Liquid Cooling of EV Batteries

open access: yesBattery Energy, Volume 5, Issue 3, May 2026.
The Graphical Abstract shows a 16‐cell battery pack used in the numerical study, along with temperature contours on the surface of coolant flow channels and a transient average surface temperature plot. A serpentine base plate and a stereoscopic serpentine cold plate are investigated, and the results are compared.

Hole Polaronic Confinement in (111) Yttria‐Stabilised Zirconia

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 25, 4 May 2026.
Ultrathin epitaxial YSZ(111) films unexpectedly develop p‐type mixed conduction and amplified electromechanical coupling under oxidizing conditions. Combined transport measurements and first‐principles modeling reveal that nanoscale confinement and ordered dopant–vacancy complexes stabilize localized O 2p hole polarons at the surface. A canonical ionic

Forward and Adjoint Calculations of Gravitational Potential in Heterogeneous, Aspherical Planets

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract We have developed a computational package for the calculation of numerically exact internal and external gravitational potential, its functional derivatives and sensitivity kernels, in an aspherical, heterogeneous planet. We detail our implementation, utilizing a transformation of the Poisson equation into a spherical reference domain, as well

Al2O3 in Anorthositic Slabs: A New Perspective on LLSVPs and Seismic Velocity Variations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract Aluminum is a key component of crustal and mantle minerals, influencing melting and geochemical evolution within the Earth. Al2O3 exists as corundum at the surface and in upper mantle conditions, but transforms into high‐pressure phases like Rh2O3(II) at lower mantle depths, enabling stability over a wide pressure range.

Solid Particle Erosion and Predictive Modeling of Epoxy Composites Reinforced With Diatom Frustules

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 47, Issue 8, Page 7094-7108, 20 April 2026.
Schematic representation of the solid particle erosion process and predictive modeling workflow for diatom frustule‐reinforced epoxy composites, illustrating the test setup, erosion response curve, and filler‐matrix interaction. ABSTRACT This study examines the solid particle erosion wear behavior of epoxy composites reinforced with 5–20 wt% calcined ...
