Towards environmental sustainability through the production of tailored bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 4, Page 632-634, April 2026.
Plastic pollution from fossil fuel–derived materials has become a pressing environmental and public health issue, driving urgent demand for sustainable alternatives. Conventional plastics can take centuries to degrade and, instead of breaking down completely, fragment into micro‐ and nanoplastics that are now found in oceans, rivers, soil and ...

SELEÇÃO POLIFÁSICA DE MICRORGANISMOS PRODUTORES DE POLIHIDROXIALCANOATOS

open access: yesQuímica Nova
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are fully biodegradable biopolyesters produced by many prokaryotes and accumulated as insoluble cytoplasmatic inclusions. The detection of these intracellular granule is usually provided using lipofilic azodyes, which are not

Stimulus‐Induced Self‐Reinforcement in Supramolecular Bamboo Plastics toward Mechanical Robustness and Programmable Shapeability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 24, 27 April 2026.
A self‐reinforcement strategy is reported for the fabrication of bamboo plastics utilizing ethanol to induce the supramolecular network reconstruction of cellulose and polyacrylamide molecules. These bamboo plastics exhibit high mechanical strength, excellent thermal stability, resistance to low temperatures, and controllable shapeability.

Optimization of growth media components for polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production from organic acids by Ralstonia eutropha. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We employed systematic mixture analysis to determine optimal levels of acetate, propionate, and butyrate for cell growth and polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) production by Ralstonia eutropha H16.

Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) From Biofloc Systems Enhances the Growth and Immune Performance of Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This study characterised polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)‐producing bacteria from the culture water of genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT) in biofloc ponds and investigated the influence of PHB on the growth and immune performance of GIFT. Out of 40 bacterial isolates, Bacillus infantis, Exiguobacterium profundum, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus ...

Enhancing Biomethane Generation From Eutrophic Water Harvested Algal Biomass Through Combined Pretreatment Strategy

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, Volume 6, Issue 4, April 2026.
This work presents the effect of combined surfactant and ultrasonic pretreatment on increasing the hydrolytic potential of mixed microalgae harvested from eutrophic water for bioenergy generation. Pretreatment enhances the solubilization and biomethane production; however, it still faces challenges in full‐scale application. Algal blooms resulting from

New technologies from the bioworld: selection of biopolymer-producing microalgae

open access: yesPolímeros
Microalgae are studied because of their biotechnological potential. The growth of microalgae aims at obtaining natural compounds. Due to the large amount of accumulated polymer waste, one of the solutions is the use of biodegradable polymers.
