Protein-Functionalized Polymer Brushes
A new strategy for the preparation of protein-functionalized polymer brushes is reported, which is based on a combination of surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), p-nitrophenyl chloroformate activation of the surface hydroxyl groups, and subsequent O(6)-benzylguanine (BG) functionalization.

Nanostructured Polymer Brushes
Small, 2007AbstractNanopatterned polymer brushes with sub‐50‐nm resolution were prepared by a combination of electron‐beam chemical lithography (EBCL) of self‐assembled monolayers (SAMs) and surface‐initiated photopolymerization (SIPP). As a further development of our previous work, selective EBCL was performed with a highly focused electron beam and not via a ...

Multicomponent Polymer Brushes
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2006This article describes a general synthetic route to laterally distinctive multicomponent polymer brushes on gold. The procedure involves repeated surface patterning using microcontact printing (muCP) of initiator-terminated thiols without backfilling with inert thiols and surface-initiated atomic transfer radical polymerization steps.

A critical bottleneck for the widespread use of single layer graphene is the absence of a facile method of chemical modification which does not diminish the outstanding properties of the two-dimensional sp(2) network. Here, we report on the direct chemical modification of graphene by photopolymerization with styrene.

Ultradense Polymer Brushes by Adsorption

Semiflexible polymer brushes and the brush-mushroom crossover
Soft Matter, 2015Semiflexible polymers end-grafted to a repulsive planar substrate under good solvent conditions are studied by scaling arguments, computer simulations, and self-consistent field theory. Varying the chain length N, persistence length lp, and grafting density σg, the chain linear dimensions and distribution functions of all monomers and of the free chain

Polymers attached by one end to an interface at relatively high coverage stretch away from the interface to avoid overlapping, forming a polymer "brush." This simple picture may serve as the basis for models in diverse interfacial systems in polymer science, such as polymeric surfactants, stabilized suspensions of colloidal particles, and structures ...

Self-consistent-field (SCF) calculations are presented of a planar grafted polymer layer that interacts either with free polymer chains or with another grafted layer. Three different systems are studied. The first is a grafted polymer layer immersed in a polymer solution.

Polymer Brushes for Surface Tuning
Macromolecular Rapid Communications, 2009AbstractMixed polymer brushes as functional ultra thin films for surface functionalization have an enormous potential to create a variety of smart, switchable, and multifunctional surfaces and thin films. It is shown how computer simulations can contribute to a better understanding of the switching behavior of brushes.
