Sliding Friction with Polymer Brushes
Physical Review Letters, 2003Using high-resolution shear force measurements, we examine in detail the frictional drag between rubbing surfaces bearing end-tethered polymeric surfactants (brushes). The drag attains a maximum on initial motion, attributed to elastic stretching of the chains, which falls by a cascade of relaxations to a value characteristic of kinetic friction.

Giant Hyaluronan Polymer Brushes Display Polyelectrolyte Brush Polymer Physics Behavior
ACS Macro Letters, 2019Polyelectrolyte brushes are important stimuli-responsive materials in a variety of technological applications as well as in biological systems. Their small size, however, introduces characterization challenges, particularly in studying 3D structure and time-dependent behavior.

Lateral Interactions in Brush Layers of Bottle-Brush Polymers
Langmuir, 2014We used isotension-ensemble Monte Carlo simulations to study the properties of brush layers of bottle-brush polymers under lateral compression. The polymers were represented by a freely jointed hard-bead model with one side chain grafted to each bead of the main chain, and we considered variations in side-chain length and bead size.

Binary Polymer Brushes of Strongly Immiscible Polymers
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2015The phenomenon of microphase separation is an example of self-assembly in soft matter and has been observed in block copolymers (BCPs) and similar materials (i.e., supramolecular assemblies (SMAs) and homo/block copolymer blends (HBCs)). In this study, we use microphase separation to construct responsive polymer brushes that collapse to generate ...

Properties of Star-Branched Polymer Brushes
Journal of Chemical Information and Computer Sciences, 2004A simple model of a polymer brush was constructed. The star polymers with three arms were terminally attached with one arm (the stem) to an impenetrable surface with the other two arms (branches) free. The excluded volume effect was included into the model as the only interaction. Therefore, the system was studied in good solvent conditions.

Density Profile of Spherical Polymer Brushes
Physical Review Letters, 1996Small angle neutron scattering measurements were made on a series of block copolymer micelles that represent model systems for spherical polymer brushes. We find hyperbolic density profiles of the form ${r}^{\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\alpha}}$ with values of $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ between 1.05 and 1.35.

Polymer absorption in dense polymer brushes vs. polymer adsorption on the brush-solvent interface
EPL (Europhysics Letters), 2014Molecular-dynamics simulations of a coarse-grained model of a dense brush of flexible polymers (of type A) interacting with a long flexible macromolecule (of type B) are presented, considering the case of an attractive AB interaction, while effective interactions between AA and BB pairs of monomers are repulsive. Varying the strength of the attraction

Brownian Diffusion Close to a Polymer Brush
Langmuir, 2007In an effort to control particle diffusion near surfaces, we have studied the dynamics of colloidal hard spheres and soft compliant star copolymers on surfaces coated with polymer brushes using evanescent wave dynamic light scattering. The same experiments provide information on the brush structure and confined particle motion.
