Fatigue properties of spring reinforces polymer gears

open access: yes, 2005
Failure of gears, occur surface pressure stress and fracture at base of teeth. For steel gears, it is known that process of carburizing increases fatigue strength. Internal stress on the surface increases of fracture fatigue strength. In this study fatigue properties of polypropylene gear reinforced with 1.2 mm wire diameter metallic springs was ...

Automated Process Optimization in a Novel Triple Shaft Mixer with Adaptive Mixing Modes

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
A novel multi‐purpose mixer with adjustable blade angle and a coaxial stirrer is developed, providing three degrees of freedom. An optimization strategy is integrated to autonomously identify optimal operating conditions through automated tests. The current draw of the main stirrer serves as the optimization criterion, while stirrer speeds, directions,

A Vectorized Algorithm for Molecular Dynamics of Short Range Interacting Particles

open access: yes, 1993
We report on a lattice based algorithm, completely vectorized for molecular dynamics simulations. Its algorithmic complexity is of the order O(N), where $N$ is the number of particles.

Multi‐material and dual‐stimulus coupled actuation micro‐gears for shape–rotation control in intelligent micro‐electro‐mechanical systems

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
A multi‐material and dual‐stimulus coupled actuation micro‐gear (MDCAMG) is developed via femtosecond‐laser 3D printing combined with magnetic nanoparticle absorption, enabling integrated environmental sensing and remote actuation at the microscale. The device incorporates a pH‐responsive hydrogel matrix for autonomous swelling/shrinking and a magnetic

Amplification of Light‐Ultrasound Interaction in a Pi‐Shifted Fiber Bragg Grating for Enhanced Ultrasonic Sensitivity

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
By precisely engineering the geometry of a fiber‐based optical resonator, the interaction between confined light and external ultrasound waves is significantly amplified without sacrificing light confinement, boosting the ultrasound detection sensitivity beyond 0.5 mPa/√Hz.

Shearing stability of lubricants [PDF]

open access: yes
Shearing stabilities of lubricating oils containing a high mol. wt. polymer as a viscosity index improver were studied by use of ultrasound. The oils were degraded by cavitation and the degradation generally followed first order kinetics with the rate of

Preliminary studies of the time-dependent shear and uniaxial tensile behaviour of oriented polymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Summary The work reported in this memo is the initial stages of an investigation of the time-dependent behaviour of certain anisotropic polymers. In the first instance low density polyethylene with a transversely isotropic symmetry is being examined.
