Bio-polymer as a bitumen modifier

2022
Bitumen modifiers are used in order to improve or restore bitumen physical and mechanical performance. Traditionally bitumen modifiers are products of crude oil, such as: soft bitumen and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS). As crude oil production declines and the environmental and financial costs of crude oil extraction increase, there is a need to ...

Polymer Modified Bitumen

2001
The dynamic mechanical behaviour of bitumen (BIT)modifaed with styrene-butadiene-styrene bloc copolymer (SBS) were investigated. dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) were performed in the temperature range -100 to 100 C. The primary viscoelastic function were determined at the traffic frecuency, 5 Hz.

Modified Bitumens Containing Thermoplastic Polymers

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1980
Abstract The mechanical and viscoelastic behaviour of bitumen, both at high and low temperature, is noticeably improved by addition of thermoplastic polymers such as thermoplastic SBS rubbers and atactic polypropylene. These polymers can be used complementary to each other. Atactic polypropylene decreases the flow of bitumen at room temperature,

Bitumen modified with reactive polymers

2012
The aim of this paper was to study the effect of the addition of two types of reactive terpolymers on the bitumen rheology. Eight polymer-modified bitumens (PMBs) were produced by mixing two types of bitumens with two types of reactive polymers, ethylene – butylacrylate – glycidylmethacrylate Elvaloy AM and Elvaloy 4170 terpolymers, using polymer ...

Stress Relaxation in Polymer-Modified Bitumens

Colloid Journal, 2002
The efficiency of BNK-40/180 bitumen modification with a blended thermoelastoplast and its components is studied by measuring the kinetics of the stress relaxation in melts. Asphaltene agglomerates are disclosed to be the main kinetic units of the stress relaxation in bitumens and bitumen–polymer compositions.

Artificial aging of polymer modified bitumens

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2000
This paper presents an investigation of artificial aging of polymer modified binders, prepared from three base bitumens and six polymers. Aging of the binders was performed using the Thin Film Oven Test (TFOT), the Rolling Thin Film Oven Test (RTFOT), and modified RTFOT (MRTFOT).

Recycled Polymers for Use as Bitumen Modifiers

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2001
The volume of waste polymer being produced continues to rise. Disposal is difficult and waste exceeds acceptable levels. The purpose of this research is to examine the possibility of incorporating waste polymer into bitumen as a modifier. The aim was to find recycled polymer modified binders that would be similar to proven modified binders or that ...

Introduction to polymer modified bitumen (PmB)

open access: yes, 2011
Bitumen is a by-product of the fractional distillation of crude oil, but is also found in natural deposits. It has a unique combination of excellent water-proofing and adhesive properties which have been used effectively for more than 5000 years. Bitumen
