Polymer optical fibers for photonics
SPIE Proceedings, 1997Polymer optical fibers may suitable for a wide variety of applications because they are easy to process into a wide variety of structures. For example, graded index fibers are widely believed to be ready for high bandwidth local area network applications such as fiber to the home.

Carbon nanotube-doped polymer optical fiber
Optics Letters, 2009We present a method to fabricate graded-index multimode polymer optical fibers doped with carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Such fiber structures provide the means to fully utilize the exceptional optical properties of the CNTs. The core region of the fiber is composed of CNTs and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with the addition of diphenyl sulfide (DPS), which

Modeling of Polymer Optical Fibers
2013The idea of this chapter is to give a complete overview on a matrix approach to describe light propagation in strongly multimode fibers such as 1-mm diameter plastic optical fibers. These large core fibers accept such a huge number of travelling modes that they can be viewed as a continuum.

Properties of polymer optical fibers
2002Like glass fibers, polymer optical fibers are characterized by a wide range of different parameters. In Chapter 1 we discussed the extent to which light propagation affects such essential properties as bandwidth and attenuation. The user will also be interested in other characteristics such as: Durability of the fiber Thermal resistance

Intensity-Encoded Polymer Optical Fiber Accelerometer
IEEE Sensors Journal, 2013In this paper, we report the development and experimental implementation of a low-cost, compact, intensity-encoded accelerometer based on polymer optical fibers (POF). The proposed accelerometer sensor element relies on the misalignment between two POFs, being the external acceleration encoded in the optical signal intensity.

Microstructured Polymer Optical Fibers
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2009The fabrication, materials, properties and applications of microstructured polymer optical fibers are reviewed. Microstructured polymer optical fibers formed the basis of extensive work on the physics of microstructured fibers, and an outline of the contribution to the wider field of microstructured fibers is also presented.

Applications of Polymer Optical Fibers
2002The polymer optical fiber has been employed for many years now. In lighting technology it represents a widely used and recognized medium. The share of POF in sensor technology and data communications on the other hand is rather small. Up until now POF was predominately used in niche areas. At present a dramatic change is taking place especially in data

Polymer optical fiber coupler for optical interconnection
SPIE Proceedings, 2002This paper proposes a novel polymer optical fiber coupler, which use thin optical fiber bundle to split and combine the light between thick POFs. The advantages of the coupler over mixing rod coupler include reduced coupling loss, elimination of fiber bending loss, and flexible in design of splitting ration and number of ports.

Polymer Fibers for Nonlinear Optics
1994Abstract : The goal of our research is to assess the possibility of making an ultrafast all-optical switching device. This require the preliminaries of doing materials processing, materials characterization, and making all-device component structures such as single mode fibers.
