Trends in polymer optical fibers
SPIE Proceedings, 2003Polymer Optical Fibers (POF) are the most promising solution for the "last 100 m" ion data communication. The combine the inherent benefits of all optical fibers such as high bandwidth, total electromagnetic immunity with additionally amazing simplicity in handling.

In previous chapters, different optical sensing mechanisms have been discussed. The characteristics of the different types of OFSs have been presented and compared. Although different types and characteristics have been shown, all those sensing techniques were fabricated using silica optical fibers. In this chapter, an alternative line of optical fiber

Polymer Optical Fiber Couplers
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992<div class="htmlview paragraph">With increasing electronic function and sophistication in automobiles, optical fibers provide an attractive alternative to copper based media. Lower labor and component costs make polymer optical fibers (POF) preferable for this application to fibers based on silica.

Polymer optical fiber amplifier
Applied Physics Letters, 1993Polymer optical fiber amplifiers (POFA) of graded-index (GI) type, which have a gain in visible region, were successfully prepared by the interfacial-gel polymerization technique. The gain of 27 dB was observed at 591 nm signal wavelength with 690 W launched pump power at 532 nm in a GI POFA with 0.5 m length.

Polymer optical fibers for mechanical wave monitoring
Optics Letters, 2020This Letter presents the development of a low-cost polymer optical fiber (POF) sensor for mechanical wave monitoring. The POF is fabricated using the light polymerization spinning process (LPS-POF) with Bisphenol-A as its main component, resulting in a highly flexible fiber. The proposed LPS-POF sensor is applied on the assessment of squared waves with

All-optical devices in polymer optical fiber
Chemical Physics, 1999Abstract We report on polymer optical fiber devices for sensors, optical switches/logic, and optical actuators. In this paper, we give a brief overview of polymer fibers, discuss recent all-optical switching results, and describe how an optical sensor and actuator can be built into a single fiber device.

Polymer optical fibers for photonics
SPIE Proceedings, 1997Polymer optical fibers may suitable for a wide variety of applications because they are easy to process into a wide variety of structures. For example, graded index fibers are widely believed to be ready for high bandwidth local area network applications such as fiber to the home.

Carbon nanotube-doped polymer optical fiber
Optics Letters, 2009We present a method to fabricate graded-index multimode polymer optical fibers doped with carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Such fiber structures provide the means to fully utilize the exceptional optical properties of the CNTs. The core region of the fiber is composed of CNTs and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with the addition of diphenyl sulfide (DPS), which

Modeling of Polymer Optical Fibers
2013The idea of this chapter is to give a complete overview on a matrix approach to describe light propagation in strongly multimode fibers such as 1-mm diameter plastic optical fibers. These large core fibers accept such a huge number of travelling modes that they can be viewed as a continuum.

Properties of polymer optical fibers
2002Like glass fibers, polymer optical fibers are characterized by a wide range of different parameters. In Chapter 1 we discussed the extent to which light propagation affects such essential properties as bandwidth and attenuation. The user will also be interested in other characteristics such as: Durability of the fiber Thermal resistance
