Intensity-Encoded Polymer Optical Fiber Accelerometer

IEEE Sensors Journal, 2013
In this paper, we report the development and experimental implementation of a low-cost, compact, intensity-encoded accelerometer based on polymer optical fibers (POF). The proposed accelerometer sensor element relies on the misalignment between two POFs, being the external acceleration encoded in the optical signal intensity.

Applications of Polymer Optical Fibers

2002
The polymer optical fiber has been employed for many years now. In lighting technology it represents a widely used and recognized medium. The share of POF in sensor technology and data communications on the other hand is rather small. Up until now POF was predominately used in niche areas. At present a dramatic change is taking place especially in data

Polymer optical fiber coupler for optical interconnection

SPIE Proceedings, 2002
This paper proposes a novel polymer optical fiber coupler, which use thin optical fiber bundle to split and combine the light between thick POFs. The advantages of the coupler over mixing rod coupler include reduced coupling loss, elimination of fiber bending loss, and flexible in design of splitting ration and number of ports.

Polymer Fibers for Nonlinear Optics

1994
Abstract : The goal of our research is to assess the possibility of making an ultrafast all-optical switching device. This require the preliminaries of doing materials processing, materials characterization, and making all-device component structures such as single mode fibers.

Polymer and Fiber Integrated Optics

2002
In recent years, the interest in making waveguides and other integrated optic devices in polymer materials has grown rapidly. The driving force behind this development is cost reduction. Semiconductor materials and dielectric materials such as lithium niobate are relatively expensive and the processes used to fabricate devices in those materials are ...
