Biomedicals from Bone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The realm of biomaterials, under which biomedical materials can be categorised, has a broad definition base and recognises materials that are synthesized or naturally sourced.

Atomic layer etching of SiO2 with Ar and CHF 3 plasmas: A self-limiting process for aspect ratio independent etching [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
With ever increasing demands on device patterning to achieve smaller critical dimensions, the need for precise, controllable atomic layer etching (ALE) is steadily increasing.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Eighty years of macromolecular science: from birth to nano-, bio- and self-assembling polymers—with slight emphasis on European contributions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A definition of macromolecular science (as opposed to polymer science and engineering) is given, from which the year 1930 is derived as the year of its birth. The scope of treatment of this paper will be limited to solid technical polymers.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

S/O and vinyl isomerization enables ultrafast cationic ring-opening polymerization toward CO2-derived polythioester with migrated in-chain C=C substituents

open access: yesNature Communications
Developing high-performance CO2-based polymers is promising to address the challenges of CO2 sequestration and the environmental impact of petroleum-based plastics.

Interfacial Synthesis of a Monolayered Fluorescent Two‐Dimensional Polymer through Dynamic Imine Chemistry

open access: yesChemistryOpen, 2020
A fluorescent monolayered two‐dimensional polymer (2DP) containing both tetraphenylethylene (TPE) and imine linkages is synthesized at air‐water interface using the Langmuir‐Blodgett method.

Simultaneous Cryogenic Radical and Oxidative Coupling Polymerizations to Polyaniline/Polyacrylamide Conductive Cryogels for Gas Sensing

open access: yesGels, 2022
The macro-porous structure of polymer cryogels provides an appropriate channel for the adsorption and transport of substances, endowing its application in the field of electrochemical sensing.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Investigation of the influence of polyelectrolytes hydrodynamic properties on the hydrate formation process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
One of the most perspective non-traditional sources of hydrocarbon raw materials and energy is gas hydrates (GH), which stimulates their large-scale study in many laboratories and scientific centers around the world.
