Mechanical Tuning of the Terahertz Photonic Bandgap of 3D-Printed One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Mechanical tuning of a 3D-printed, polymer-based one-dimensional photonic crystal was demonstrated in the terahertz spectral range. The investigated photonic crystal consists of 13 alternating compact and low-density layers and was fabricated through single-step stereolithography.

Photoinduced split of the cavity mode in photonic crystals based on porous silicon filled with photochromic azobenzene-containing substances [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The novel phototunable photonic structures based on electrochemically etched silicon filled with four photochromic azobenzene-containing compounds, bent-shaped low molar mass substance and side-chain polymethacrylates and copolyacrylate, were prepared and their photooptical properties were studied. It was found that irradiation of these composites with

Interaction of solid organic acids with carbon nanotube field effect transistors [PDF]

open access: yesChem. Phys. Lett. 430 (2006) 75, 2007
A series of solid organic acids were used to p-dope carbon nanotubes. The extent of doping is shown to be dependent on the pKa value of the acids. Highly fluorinated carboxylic acids and sulfonic acids are very effective in shifting the threshold voltage and making carbon nanotube field effect transistors to be more p-type devices.

THz optical properties of polymethacrylates after thermal annealing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Polymer based stereolithographic additive manufacturing has been established for the rapid and low-cost fabrication of THz optical components due to its ability to construct complex 3D geometries with high resolution. For polymer based or integrated optics, thermal annealing processes are often used to optimize material properties. However, despite the

Photocatalytic Upcycling and Depolymerization of Vinyl Polymers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 19, May 6, 2024.
As environmental concerns associated with the ultimate fate of polymers grow, researchers are exploring methods to enhance the recycling and sustainability of these ubiquitous materials. Enhanced upcycling, degradation and depolymerization strategies have recently been achieved via photocatalysis and are summarized in this Mini Review.

Modified Polysaccharides in Laundry Applications as Soil Release and Anti‐Redeposition Additives

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 22, June 10, 2025.
ABSTRACT Polymers play an important role within modern laundry formulations, enhancing their cleaning performance by aiding in the release of soil from textiles and helping to prevent soil resettling upon the textiles during washing. Most of these polymers are derived from non‐renewable petrochemical sources; however, a combination of factors ...

Symmetry Scheme for Amino Acid Codons [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev.E65, 021912 (2002), 2003
Group theoretical concepts are invoked in a specific model to explain how only twenty amino acids occur in nature out of a possible sixty four. The methods we use enable us to justify the occurrence of the recently discovered twenty first amino acid selenocysteine, and also enables us to predict the possible existence of two more, as yet undiscovered ...

Gut Microbiota-derived Bile Acids Promote Gamma-secretase Activity Through Interactions with Nicastrin Subunits [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Alzheimer's disease (AD) has emerged as a progressively pervasive neurodegenerative disorder worldwide. Bile acids, synthesized in the liver and modified by the gut microbiota, play pivotal roles in diverse physiological processes, and their dysregulation in individuals with AD has been well-documented.
