AbstractPolyneuropathy may result in pain, numbness, and weakness, which may in turn affect driving ability. Medications used to treat neuropathic pain may alter cognition, which may further affect driving. Although such impairments have engendered questions about the driving safety in this group of patients, the rate of motor vehicle accidents (MVAs ...

Polyneuropathies in paediatrics
European Journal of Pediatrics, 1990Non-acute polyneuropathies (PNPs) encountered in paediatrics are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on three main groups of conditions: the relatively rare but treatable dysimmune PNP (chronic relapsing dysimmune polyneuropathies, CRDP); the more common hereditary motor/sensory neuropathies (HMSN and HSN); and the often missed symptomatic neuropathies of ...

SummaryA clinical material is presented consisting of 43 children below 17 years of age with evidence of impaired function of peripheral nerves. One case occurred in a newborn with muscular hypotonia, weakness and areflexia: Thirteen children had signs of an affection also of the central nervous system.

AbstractAlcoholic polyneuropathy is a common disorder, characterized by nonspecific clinical, electromyographic, and pathologic features. Nerve conduction studies and needle electromyography disclose findings consistent with a generalized, sensorimotor, axonal degenerative, polyneuropathy.

Atypical chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathies
Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2018Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is an immune-mediated neuropathy progressive for more than 2 months, including several clinical subtypes.1 2 In 1975, Dyck et al 3 described the classical prototype of CIDP, and emphasised that a ...

Polyneuropathies of cats have a variety of clinical presentations. Areflexic flaccid quadriparesis, or quadriplegia, progressing over a 24– to 48–hour period, may be associated with polyneuropathies, as can chronic insidiously progressive tremors and muscle weakness that wax and wane or progress slowly over weeks or months, and which can go undiagnosed

Polyneuropathy in paraproteinaemia
Journal of Neurology, 1985Paraproteinaemias are frequently associated with peripheral neuropathies. "Benign" paraproteinaemia, myeloma and Waldenströms macroglobulinaemia may present clinically as polyneuropathy. Therefore immunoelectrophoresis is strongly recommended in the routine diagnosis of polyneuropathies of unknown origin.

Disulfiram in generally accepted maintenance doses in alcoholism may produce a rather severe polyneuropathy. In addition to the 39 literature cases, 5 personal patients were examined. Detailed clinical findings are given and the frequent permanent sequelae are emphasized.

The autoimmune peripheral neuropathies with prominent motor manifestations are a diverse collection of unusual peripheral neuropathies that are appreciated in vast clinical settings. This chapter highlights the most common immune-mediated, motor predominant neuropathies excluding acute, and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy ...
